Stunning. It's sad following the difficulties of being a poor musician in Russia - I hope they find some economic security. Delain - Moonbathers Wonderful melodic, sometimes poppy, symphonic metal band. Singer Charlotte Wessels is awesome. Their last album was inspired by Octavia Butler; on this one, she draws on Neil Gaiman for 'Turn the Lights Out.' Garmarna - 6 So glad they're back. I'd prefer more trad instruments and louder songs, but what a great electronic-pop album. Nina Diaz - The Beat is Dead First solo album from Girl in a Coma singer/guitarist with huge, original voice. Wonderful variety - not as punk as the band, more rock and some new wave and acoustic numbers. Agnes Obel - Citizen of Glass Kristin Hersh - Wyatt at the Coyote Palace Guess that's a top 6. You can add these which I also enjoyed - Haley Bonar - Impossible Dream, Richard Shindell - Careless Lissie - My Wild West and Live at Union Chapel - her latest album is a bit mellow for me but still some great stuff. Anneke van Giersbergen, Arstidir - Bist Du Bei Mir - some lovely lullabies Haven't listened to enough yet - Bettie Serveert - Damaged Good, Bob Mould - Patch the Sky karen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2017 20:54:24 -0500 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Buffering the Vampire Slayer I donbt recall seeing this podcast mentioned yet on ectob& Back in the day, there was a heck of a lot of talk about Buffy on the mailing list b after all, it was right up many of our alleys, and the mailing list had already been around for 6 years when the show premiered nearly 20 years ago! I would guess that there have been a number of Buffy podcasts, but this one, well, this is likely to be the first featuring a musician listed in the ectoguide! Jenny Owen Youngs, along with her wife Kristin Russo, have been doing a weekly podcast in which they discuss an episode. Not surprisingly, therebs a something of a focus on feminism and lgbtq, but they have a rule that they can only say bpatriarchyb once per show. The best part, though, might be that each installment ends with Jenny Owen Youngs performing an original song about the episode. Ibve been having a great deal of fun listening to the show, and highly recommend it. Theybve just released season 2 episode 1 (remember that s1 was only 12 episodes) and the songs written for S1 are available as an album on iTunes. https://bufferingthevampireslayer.com (orB http://bufferingthevampireslayer.libsyn.com/podcast for your podcast app of choice) jeff ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #1904 ****************************
