[personally, the money spent on the tickets to see her this october in iceland is much more worth it :) ]-jasonnp - Seabear - We Build a Fire ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2011 17:17:11 +0200 From: Leonora Christina Skov Subject: Wye Oak, Dark Dark Dark, Brooke Fraser, Imany & Rhoderic Land I am looking immensely forward to the new Feist, Rachael Yamagata, Camille, and Mara Carlyle. All coming out this October. My best discoveries lately have been Wye Oak's Civilian and Dark Dark Dark's Wild Go, both bear a resemblance to Beach House, the latter with a slight Eastern European cabaret flavor that I am infatuated with - everyone who likes The Dresden Dolls should definitely pay attention here. This album is a stunner. Also, I am much in love with Brooke Fraser's latest album, Flags. She's from New Zealand, and her voice reminds me a lot of Amy Grant's. Her music does, too. It's not overly complicated, but it's definitely soothing and not too explicitly Christian though she seems to be rooted in that tradition. It should be noted that the singles do not do the album any justice. They are just very poppy and saccharine while the rest is much more introspective. Those of you who like Tracy Chapman may want to take a listen to Imany from The Comoro Islands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4tF9EnbcxU Her voice keeps surprising me. And to brighten up everyone's day here's Rhoderic Land: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUd6XF_8fGI Isn't this just a lovely song?
