It's definitely worth checking out - full of melodic rock with some powerful vocals. At times she sounds like 10,000 Maniacs, if they decided to rock out. I was a bit disappointed when she them switched and formed of Verona, that band seems to be going in a different direction, a bit slicker and more radio-friendly. Sounds like the live performance still has her raw energy though. In fact Lindi's new album 'Little Red Boots' is her "debut" according to her website and all press. Has anyone heard her 2007 'Fall From Grace'? Red cowboy boots, red cowboy shirt, red Jezebel lipstick, black veil - she was pretty dressed up and it worked with the music, which is a pastiche of various past country-noir sounds. A more rocking Neko Case? Lindi's strong vibrato is her strength, it's one of those voices that can 'catch' in a mournful way. Her lyrics and themes are full of cliches, which I don't mind so much live but it works against creating atmosphere. Lots of fun live - loud, toe-tapping (watch her feet), charismatic. Wish she traveled more. Lindi is playing more gigs in the States and Europe - http://lindiortega.ca/live/. Hopefully her band (guitar, keyboards &bv, drums, double bass) will be there - I wouldn't be so interested in subtle acoustic versions of the new songs. Amazing what a bit of patience can turn up. Adam K - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Try IM ToolPack Send any screenshot to your friends in seconds... Her throaty rich voice is kinda interesting against simple Ibiza-lite but ectophiles might prefer the acoustic version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU7GoCKSQfg http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=M_tHUXnD3Z0#! k ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2011 20:03:51 -0400 From: Karen Hester Subject: Florence + the Machine has a taster of her new stuff up today - http://florenceandthemachine.net/. I'm in love. But I agree I do think it's overlong for a single. Emmy is unusually eloquent for a pop/folk artist, and charming, so do see her, if in an acceptable venue. Emmy played with a backing band she'd only met the other day, which is sensible financially, but her UK cohorts are probably better. She wore a Hindu necklace and draped Chinese and Tibetan beads on her mike stand, perhaps due to her new album being inspired by her ex-fiance finding God, calling off the wedding and heading on an African mission and her subsequent exploration and rejection of faith. Or maybe she thought the shiny beady things looked pretty. Ha - Emmy's website lists shows in Newcastle, Australia and Stockton, California with UK dates on either side. They must have used some wonky automated thing, unless the north of England has floated off.
