Most relevant to this message, I now very much in the midst of recording my new album. Some of the songs are ones I've been carrying around with me for the last few years, others I've not yet shared with a soul. So I'm looking forward to this concert as a chance to finally bring them out into the light. Our studio time has been intensive, and I'm thrilled about the way these recordings are turning out. I'm enjoying wearing the hat of producer, and am taking the opportunity to explore a direction I've been wanting to go in for some time. My working process being as it is, it's hard to know when the album will be finished. Optimistically, I'd say I'd like to be done with tracking by the end of this year. But I do have a lot on my plate in my teaching career at present. So it's hard to know. If you know anyone who specializes in cloning life-sized identical twins, let me know. Recording again reminds me I could really use an extra one of me who could just stay in the studio working while I do everything else and feed her pizza. On the subject of teaching, I want to let you know about something else-- this past year, I started a chorus, arising out of my work as music director at the Brooklyn Waldorf School. We come together once a week to sing in the round, and it's just terrific fun. Our repertoire draws on folk music traditions from around the world, including South African freedom songs, shapenote, shaker, Balkan, Russian, and European folk songs, to name a few. People can come for one or two of our meetings, or come regularly. We work in a way that allows for all levels of commitment. It's free, and you don't have to be able to read music. Songs are taught by ear. If that's something you or a friend might be interested in attending, let me know. I'm always happy to welcome new people to the group. Along similar lines, I am also starting a children's chorus this fall, so if you have any little ones, age 9 and up, who would like to sing, feel free to send them our way! The group is called the Anam Cara Singers, and the idea is to sing together in a spirit of celebration and service. So if you are affiliated with any institutions that might be a meaningful venue for a concert by a group of lively elementary school students, let me know. Well, that's update enough, I think... I look forward to seeing those of you who can make it at the show on the 16th, and to sharing the songs and stories that are the fruits of my year's gatherings. Warmly, Noe Venable 3. lyrics... ANTLERS Massive and strange was the beast in the streetlamp trembling and grand in a halo of light there in his eyes was the look of surprise of a wandering king with a face long forgotten Where will he go when the last night star has faded chased from your gardens and into the hills why has he come? Will he come back again when the last treebs been felled when the last hillbs been taken? I did weep to see him so I would kiss him would go with him shiver when the cold winds blow follow him where he would go where, where did heb follow him where he would go Father, brother oh, where did you go daughter, I donbt know to the sea, or through the snow how will I know? Father, brother oh, where did you go daughter, I donbt know to the sea, or through the snow how will I know? Always, thank you for reading our missives.
