She's Scottish, and I know nothing else :) Huh, she won 'Scottish album of the year' with this one. I like the simple song titles - 'The bird' 'The want' 'The blood'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gId4LfQMqbQ&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C43z3iuuwY&feature=youtu.be https://kathrynjoseph.bandcamp.com/album/bones-you-have-thrown-me-and-blood-ive-spilled ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Sep 2015 15:06:49 -0400 From: Dan Stark <2005.carnivore99@verizon.net> Subject: Jewel. Yes, Jewel. 20 years ago I first discovered how to get onto the Internet via a text interface through freeweb, I think it was called. My musical obsession at the time was a new artist named Jewel, who I'd seen play a residency at the tiny C'est What bar in Toronto before she released Pieces of You, so I searched for her and landed on both the Ecto list and a Jewel list with about 30 users. They were the first forums I ever joined online, and I began trading Jewel tapes with a few people. In particular, I remember Neile Graham told me her favorite Jewel song was Nicotine Love, which might have been my first real online musical discovery before I started digging further into Ecto. In 1996, Pieces of You came out and then Jewel played her fabled Jewelstock performances in Bearsville NY, the upshot of which was supposed to be her next album, likely including some of those live recordings. But that never happened. Jewel went her musical way and I went mine, but those early web discoveries defined a huge role in my musical interests in the years following. I'm still here on Ecto, and I've remained connected to Jewel's EDA Facebook group, really just as a way to keep in touch with old friends. So it's no surprise that I've been ignoring all the growing chatter about Jewel's new album, Picking Up the Pieces, lately. Well, now Pandora has posted a preview of the new album here: http://www.pandora.com/station/play/2803416198819340670 All I can say is this is the album Jewel should have made 19 years ago. As much as I've cooled on her in the ensuing years, this is so reminiscent of those Jewelstock performances it's just a feeling of sheer delight and nostalgia to hear her play these songs like this. The song that I took my Email address from, Carnivore, is on this album. And yes, Nicotine Love is finally on this album. Sometimes, life is like a circle. - - Dan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Sep 2015 14:41:11 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Re: Joanna Newsom Yes, I've been loving this track and am really looking forward to the album. - --Neile On Sep 4, 2015, at 6:59 AM, Karen Hester wrote: > Wandering around NYC's Village. > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky9Ro9pP2gc > > Album Divers due Oct 23. > Various interview snippets around web, eg > http://www.ew.com/article/2015/09/02/joanna-newsom-divers-interview : > > bI also spent a year or two on the instrumental arrangements and overdubs. > I wanted the character and colors of the instrumentation to shift > definitively, from song to song, which entailed a wide pool of > collaborators and a lengthy collaborative process with each person.b > > The multi-instrumentalist also switched up toolbox for *Divers*b , using an > arsenal of nearly a dozen keyboards and synths (Clavichords! I will check out her album, but I wish she wasn't so "tryin' to be edgy, y'all!" with her near-nudity ( http://www.gofugyourself.com/vmas-wtf-miley-cyrus-08-2015 has a pretty amazing slideshow) and constant references to pot smoking. It does not look like lip sync, but the final product has the sound of an inside space. I guess you can do just about anything with modern recording software. - - Steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Aug 2015 11:36:03 -0500 From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Miley on Ecto?
