Some lovely choral stuff, plus Shara. I haven't listened deeply yet so not sure if I'll just admire it (like the last collection) or like it. bThis is a collection of songs about childhood,b says Snider. bWhile writing it, I tried to immerse myself in my own memories of how it felt to be a child b where every emotion was outsized, every experience transformative, and the world seemed full of magic, mystery, danger, and things I couldnbt possibly understand.b Ha, someone called Jason Gordon has commented on her page, but it's another Jason Gordon! She has a new album soon called 'Avocet' (a stilt-ish bird) and is playing around Brooklyn etc come Autumn. She has a new digital EP, M3LL155X, and I've been obsessing on the track, "In Time." The rest of it is worth listening to, as well. Chloe Charles has a few crowd-funded album, With Blindfolds On--ecto pop fans will love it--she has a gorgeous voice and the songs are really well-constructed. For me, though, it lacks the slight edginess of her previous release, Break The Balance. Other newish things I've been listening to: the new Ryley Walker, Scott Merritt, Sasha Siem, Sophie Hunger, Lonelady, and Torres. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Sep 2015 09:59:16 -0400 From: Karen Hester Subject: Joanna Newsom Wandering around NYC's Village. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky9Ro9pP2gc Album Divers due Oct 23. Various interview snippets around web, eg http://www.ew.com/article/2015/09/02/joanna-newsom-divers-interview : bI also spent a year or two on the instrumental arrangements and overdubs. I wanted the character and colors of the instrumentation to shift definitively, from song to song, which entailed a wide pool of collaborators and a lengthy collaborative process with each person.b The multi-instrumentalist also switched up toolbox for *Divers*b , using an arsenal of nearly a dozen keyboards and synths (Clavichords! Mellotrons! Marxophones?) and her trusted harp for the process. bIt was all fun,b Newsom says. bProbably the most fun Ibve had making a record - but it was immersive.b Been a while. Thing is, she's been playing smaller concerts like this all along. The smaller venues and private shows, from what I've read, have almost always been old school Jewel. Just like her smaller shows in the old days. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #1493 ****************************
