Meant to post about her Halloween concert at the same mansion. It was supurb. Great sound, very professionally done. And Jill clearly enjoyed both the experience and interacting with the online audience. (Not to mention a very cool giant mouse/rat statue that some camera angles caught perfectly over her shoulder). This holiday concert should be amazing. And the Immortal Collection on the coffin-shaped USB drive. I didn't *need* it, but it sure is cool and fun. Way to fill in the one-offs in Jill's repertoire - especially if your bandwidth didn't allow you to download the movies - plus get extra storage. Here are a few of my staples: She & Him: "A Very She & Him Christmas" Enya: "And Winter Came" Tracey Thorn: "Tinsel & Lights" Kate Bush: "50 Words for Snow" (of course!) Libera: "Christmas in Ireland" (in small doses) The ambient/ethereal/goth record label Projekt has released 3 excellent holiday compilations called "Excelsis" (vol 1, 2, and 3). Some lovely female vocals from Love Spirals Downwards, Area, Faith & Disease, Mirabilis, etc.. Released this year, I am loving the new album by Gregorian called "Winter Chants". I don't typically think of male vocals as 'ethereal' - but there are plenty of examples of that on this record. Sarah Brightman's sister lends vocals to a few tracks too. Speaking of Sarah, I'd like to spend more time with "A Winter Symphony", which never grabbed me in the past. I should give it another chance. There might be some others I'm forgetting. What about you? What would you recommend? If so, let us know what you think of it. Personally, I LOVE holiday music. I counted some 1200 songs on my computer, and there are many more on CD. Every year I debate whether we should have an Ectoguide list of holiday/seasonal albums on the site, but it's mostly Christmas music and I don't want to privilege one religion. On the other hand, Christmas in America has been so secularized and there is so much music to choose from, most of it not particularly ectoish. Anyway, this discussion made me decide to open the question up to the list for opinions. Should we have a list? JoAnn np: holiday music, of course!

the only Xmas music I can tolerate are the two over the Rhine holiday themed albums and Susan McKeown and Lindsay hornera through the frost and snow (I think he name is something like that) /grinch on the rest of Xmas music makes me want to vomit /grinch off (of course Xmas isn't in the suite of holidays we celebrate so that has something to do with the distaste for schmaltzy Xmas music tormenting me after Halloween) - -Jason np MC8 On Thursday, November 20, 2014, Sue Trowbridge wrote: > Our 2006 "Xmas music that doesn't suck" thread still lives on the web: > http://www.smoe.org/lists/ecto/v12.n312 > http://www.smoe.org/lists/ecto/v12.n313 > http://www.smoe.org/lists/ecto/v12.n314 > > On Thu, Nov 20, 2014 at 4:32 PM, robert bristow-johnson < > rbj@audioimagination.com > wrote: > > > On 11/20/14 6:36 PM, Paul Jensen wrote: > > > >> What are some of your favorite winter/holiday/xmas albums, that might > >> appeal to other ecto-folk? > >> > >> > > these are 3 that i have suggested in the past. they're old, but i still > > like them: > > > > 1.
