I don't remember seeing her mentioned here, but she really ought to be. She's quirky and twisted, and sings lovely songs whilst playing a toy piano. Some of her work is a cappella, with looping. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ri7CCPJSEo She's just at the beginning of her career, with a 6 song CD and some videos. I hope we'll hear a lot more from her. - -- brni i don't want the world, i just want your half. http://www.kappamaki.com/ http://brni.livejournal.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 May 2011 09:49:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Ellen Rawson Subject: Re: Eliza Rickman - ----- Original Message ----- > From: Bernie Mojzes > I sojourned to New Jersey yesterday to visit the Steampunk World Fair, and > happened across a musician by the name of Eliza Rickman. Ellen PS Was disappointed that Friday's Guardian only gave Thea Gilmore's 'JohnWesley Harding' release three stars, stating it's for completists only. Oh well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/may/19/thea-gilmore-john-wesley-harding- review I finally got the chance to really listen to it yesterday whilst driving to Wales. Nice covers. I'm also disappointed that I can't make her Tuesday show at London's Union Chapel where she's playing the whole thing live in its entirety. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 May 2011 18:59:45 +0100 From: tracey burrows Subject: Re: Eliza Rickman Hello Just wanted to say thanks for this recommendation...Eliza Rickman is truly talented...and going her own way...that I admire. Beautiful voice floating over that eerie and slightly disturbing toy piano....it works very well. Clever lyrics too. I have downloaded the EP and will be watching out for her in the future. Thanks again, Ecto is a great community to be part of. Clever lyrics too. I have downloaded the EP and will be watching out for her in the future. And that video is absolutely enchanting! I liked Eliza as well but felt that the toy piano alone gets a little old after a couple of songs. I would like to see other instruments used in addition. But she definitely shows promise. I wish I had picked up the EP but we were really tired and didn't feel like trying to get over to where the CD's were. A merch table would have been nice. The CD is all toy piano, though. I agree that there's only so far toy piano will go, but I expect it's easier than lugging a steinway cross country. Such affairs as the Steampunk fair seem like they'd naturally attract some contingent of ectophiles. Might be interesting way to meet folks IRL. I don't suppose anyone here is planning on attending Balticon next weekend? Bernie On Sun, 22 May 2011, w1ggy2@aol.com wrote: > > I was there too! Along with a couple other Ecto-ites.
