My non-ecto or pop taste is more along the lines of alternative r&b/dance stuff like AlunaGeorge, Solange, Janelle Monae, etc... or stuff that I feel like HAS gotten mentions here, like Sky Ferreira's record last year, Haim, Grimes... and I listen to A LOT of classic 80's-90's house music and latin freestyle, but that's sort of an entirely different conversation maybe since that's not contemporary pop. Roisin Murphy hasn't recorded much in a while, but she's also one of my favorite contemporary dance pop people, and I would say very ecto-friendly. ~tim On Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 2:53 PM, Andrew wrote: > Try Owl Eyes' album Nightswim if you haven't had the chance, it's both > polished and refreshing. I'm so glad that some of the people on my long list were mentioned on other people's lists. Overall, I tried to keep it to the artists I return to time and again, so it's heavily weighted toward people with a long discography. Looking it over again, that's an understatement as I think everyone on the list has at least 10 albums (okay, I'm anal. I counted and everyone has at least 10, except 1 artist who "only" has 8). I'll check the ones I don't know. At the moment, however, most pop with cred just doesn't work for me - I want a sugar rush chorus, a jolt of crass sunshine. Quality lyrics, musicianship and subtlety? Bah. I go to other genres for those! I sometimes like 80s indie-pop (Sundays, Smiths, Darling Buds, Primitives, House of Love and some jangly types) but I want the punchy production at the moment. I'm sure this is temporary, as Tim experienced. I'm not going to fight it though. If I happen to have opinions on the best Britney non-album tracks, then so be it. My ears don't 'get' r&b tinged pop but I'm liking hip hop and various dance/edm sub-genres more. I just saw the NPR Music newsletter that said she would be releasing her first new material in 44 years. I heard her _Parallelograms_ album on Irene Trudell's show on WFMU about a decade ago, and I think a number of people tried tracking her down. The new CD _The Soul of All Natural Things_ includes production help from Julia Holter http://www.npr.org/2014/02/23/279236090/first-listen-linda-perhacs-the-soul-of-all-natural-things?utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=20140224&utm_source=Music - --Valerie Richardson ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2014 16:33:24 -0800 From: Ed Cole Subject: thank y'all Thanks to Kerry, Bernie, and Ken D. for their assistance. And my apologies to everyone else for this off topic discussion. I've sent my ISP a report. For the Fractal list they had me back in contact the next day. They use Modus Webquarantine to handle their spam filtering. Mostly I'm happy with it, very little junk gets through. But when legitimate mail gets blocked, it's just annoying. At least Modus had a logon feature. The university I work for was using a site that anyone in the world could access and report a domain as spam in origin. Scary. Anyhow, hopefully I'll be back enjoying the musical discussions soon. Ed ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #1028 ****************************
