Her voice is kind of a cross between Corin Tucker and Joanne Newsom so obviously it's not going to be a hit with everyone, but growing to love both those voices prepared me for Emma McKenna. Her sounds is dominated by her vocals and electric guitar. There's a video on her site: http://www.emmamckenna.com Check it out! It's the first time I ever discovered a new artist by getting intrigued with another artist's friends on myspace--and now I can't recall which artist the original one was! But wow, I really like Emma McKenna. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2011 18:17:39 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Re: Emma McKenna Actually, I just remembered that it was through Katie Stelmanis's new project, Austra's MySpace page that I found her. At times her voice reminds me of somone else, but I can't yet place it...hopefully it will come to me. Watched a few of the other vids on YouTube of her, not going to buy anything by her, but I do have to say interesting. Going to have to listen more to place that "other" voice I hear in her. I also think there's a touch of Katie Stelmanis. And...someone else. For what it's worth, I've been obsessing with the entire album, not just that song. I would say it's pretty much of a piece. Some really hook-y musical lines and lyrics. In other words, I think she's a pretty good songwriter. Jim, who is a huge Kristin Hersh fan says she reminds him of her. - --Neile On Mar 14, 2011, at 7:41 PM, Michael Curry wrote: > That is definitely an unusual voice.
