It's the first PJ Harvey album I can't stop listening to for many, many years. Just thought I'd say that. Although, mind you, I'm currently listening to Kansas' "Point of No Return". I mean, I'm only human AND I never had this album the first time it came out. Personally, though, I thought that there was hope for universe when Laura Marling defeated Cheryl Cole for the Mercury prize here in the UK. :) This month, we're seeing the Unthanks on tour (they themselves were nominated for a Mercury a couple of years ago), possibly seeing Jackie Oates next weekend (she used to be with the Unthanks); next month, it's Thea Gilmore and Martha Tilston, though not together. And oh my -- just saw that Peggy Seeger is touring the UK and one stop isn't too far from me. She's 76 this year, so we're (husband and I, not the royal we :) are thinking of catching her this time around in May. Ellen "Literature stops in 1100. To me invites comparison to Noe Venable's videos, which are nearly as beautiful visually but not affected. I wonder how I'll feel about it after I watch it a few times. I looked it up and as it turns out, it's a Howard Hughes allegory. We bought Let England Shake on its release day and Jim loves, loves, loves it. While I love the music--some of PJ's best songwriting here--I find the scratchy way she uses her voice through most of this irritating. Badly enough that if I'm the one who put the album on, I'll turn it off. I'm hoping that I get over this, because damn I want to like it. Unbelievably, the only other CD I've bought & received so far this year is a CD of a distant relative who is being groomed to be the next Charlotte Church. Very pretty if you like that sort of thing. However, I just ordered Christine Fellows' new CD, and the new Jenny Hval. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Mar 2011 18:29:38 -0500 (EST) From: Bernie Mojzes Subject: All the World's a Stage... Hullo, all. Totally off topic for a music list, but since a fair number of folks on the list are into SF and Fantasy, and a bunch of us are writers...
