Oh dear, indeed. I'm sorry to hear you didn't like the album, even sorrier to hear about the personal stuff. I hope this doesn't discourage people from discovering Adrienne Pierce. She's a talented Canadian singer-songwriter/guitarist who's been mentioned on ecto a few times. Her debut cd Small Fires is excellent (one list member dubbed it one of the best albums of 2004; no, it wasn't me). I found her follow-up Faultline a bit dull, and I thought Oh Deer was a return to form. That said, I don't have the most finely tuned ears. I do like Adrienne's music a lot and haven't talked about her more mostly because I don't really know how to describe her music. For what it's worth, CD Baby lists Edie Brickell, Rickie Lee Jones, Sheryl Crow, and The Sundays as comparisons. Offhand I would say Brickell feels about right. I do hope people will check her out. http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/AdriennePierce JoAnn > Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2011 19:48:36 -0800 > From: birdies@ix.netcom.com > To: ecto@smoe.org > Subject: anyone hear... > > Adrienne Piece's latest LP "Oh Deer"? > > Many of the songs were older and the demo's were great. > > She has had brilliant co-writers and producers in the past.... > > Jeff Trott (Cheryl Crow when she launched) & Thom Russo (Janet Jackson, > Johnny Cash many others) > > Niko Friesen (great session drummer canadian) and John O'Brien > > Anyway.... > > If you listen to her older work and then the Winter EP which was > produced by Ari Shine and the songs he produced on "oh Deer" and if you > have ears....you'll hear instrument parts that dont quite jive and the > quality of the production goes down... the cheesy organ, stepping to > its own planet guitar, and things that sound out of place or don't in > any way compare to her other work, will, indeed reveal themselves in the > credits as attributed to Ari Shine. > > And she married him, so it's a case of the husband took over. > > Which, I could see coming.....I heard him back her up a few times and he > was on another planet. > > If I was holding auditions, he would not have cut the mustard. > > And I was, as I had been supporting Adrienne's work, as previously she > was very well supported and her songs were wonderfully realised. > > But I could see this one coming and while he was eager to have me on > board to get free photo's or marketing support - there is no way I was > gonna back that pony at the races.
