She's on a short tour of the UK with Krystle Warren, and we picked up tickets to see them both on the 22nd. We'd seen Krystle this summer on Richard Thompson's Meltdown and were impressed by her voice. The literature advertising the gig with Krystle Warren said that Keineg's earlier albums were cult classics. Hmm. I guess I own cult classics. :) We bought the tickets for the Warren/Keinig gig at the Girlyman gig we attended on Friday night. Now, talk about a fun night! This venue is small -- only 95 seats and it wasn't quite sold out, but there were only a couple of empty seats. They rocked Basingstoke, if that's possible , sold a lot of CDs and made a lot of us happy. It's Girlyman's first UK tour, and if the entire thing goes as well as Friday night, then it's been an excellent run. May they return to the UK soon. So because I'm a bit compulsive, I'm compiling and reviewing all the covers/remixes/live versions of Running Up That Hill that I can find, as well as songs clearly inspired by it (i.e. "Limits of our Love" by Charlotte Martin.) I've gotten all the ones on Wikipedia, as well as a few outliers, but I'm sure you all know of some I've forgotten. If you have, let me know! It's a killer version and there has been a number of remixes of it I have it up on my soundcloud account - I tried logging in but sems the site is down for a bit try www.soundcloud.com/birdiebreezepr I also listed all the remixes in the notes. regardless if Durga is one of my oldest friends, IMHO, I think her version is totally kickass!! Hi, I just yesterday got a bunch of mashups that included "Love Comes Running Up That Hill Quickly" by DJ Magnet w/ Placebo vs Pet Shop Boys vs KaTe Bush. As it started with Placebo I was not sure if I would like it, but, when the original KaTe backing was added I decided it was a keeper. Don't know enough about Pet Shop Boys to know what of theirs was used. I believe that I downloaded it from mashup town. A Google search will find it, though. bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! October 4th 2010 is the release of 'A Woman Like That', the first single from my forthcoming album Singing in the Dark. The lyrics are from the poem 'Her Kind' by Anne Sexton, with music by Lisa Gutkin who composed the music for 'Gonna Get Through This World'. You can download it here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/susanmckeown This is an album that I decided to make seven years ago and I am thrilled that it is almost complete. 19 days ago I launched a Kickstarter project to help fund the album: it's a site where people can seek backers for their creative projects: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1597578099/singing-in-the-dark A few hours after I launched the project I got a call to go on tour. Now that I've returned I was delighted to learn that 48 people have donated over $2,500, however I still need $5,000 to make my goal. And I have 11 days in which to do it. Please take a moment to view the short video about the album in which you will hear some of the songs from the recording. There are a number of rewards available and you can always suggest your own or donate the reward to one of the non-profits that will be benefiting from a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the album. Thanks for your support, Susan www.susanmckeown.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Oct 2010 15:29:37 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Ectofolk in Stockholm?
