Have any of you heard Susanna and the Magical Orchestra's cd: 3? The lead female singer's voice distinctly reminds me of Sarah McLachlan. It's rather chilly, sombre, sad music, but beautiful. Check out the song, Recall. They performed at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, but alas I missed them. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 11:11:23 -0400 From: kevin bartlett Subject: Shameless Self Promotion Dept: Hey Guys Yeah I know......sorry. She played heavily from her back catalog (tons from Harbinger and This Fire especially, and two from Amen) and only one song from Courage -- her voice has lost none of its power or versatility and she was wailing and rocking and raging as much as ever. Also, the two songs she played from her forthcoming "Ithaca," while maybe a little bit platitude-y lyrically (a weakness she sometimes has), were pretty friggin intense. Bodes really well for the record being a return to form (I actually find the adult contemporary and jazz on Courage really soothing and it was wonderful to hear her voice again, but it was def. a little bit like having your soldier fiance come back from the war with PTSD and having to accept he's been fundamentally altered... okay, that was a really fucked up image, sorry). I think the fire's back! ~Tim ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 10:55:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Ellen Rawson Subject: Vienna Teng in Britain and Germany Hello all, Just was reading an email from Bush Hall in London and noticed that Vienna Teng will be there in August. I was a little worried when she said it'd be more acoustic to be honest but I shouldn't have been. Amazing album. Laurie Anderson's Homeland is an absolute work of genius. Definitely worth the wait and better than the performance I saw in Chicago. Everyone should at least give it a try. Also, having been really enjoying Sia's new one. Surprised me a bit as I never really warmed to the last one. I saw an ad for this in Time Out yesterday ... good you know about it!! > And, Meth, sorry to miss you and Rachael in London this past Wednesday. It was too long a day at the college to head into London after work. :( No worries, it was a 20-minute showcase for media & industry, so it definitely wouldn't have been worth the schlep!! We'll be back in September and again in late October/early November for more proper tours -- with band! -- so you'll have more, better chances to see her then. Her album "Delancey Street" comes out in the UK on September 13. Just got back from seeing Sarah Harmer at The Borderline. Amazing show, in an incredible venue.
