Today's Subjects: ----------------- New music worth checking out [Leonora Christina Skov ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 18 May 2010 17:09:08 +0200 From: Leonora Christina Skov Subject: New music worth checking out I have been promoting my Gothic novel Silhuet af en synder (Silhouette of a Sinner) lately and thus haven't had much time to listen to music, but I'll bring these albums with me on vacation next month: Susanne Sundfoer: The Brothel. Norwegian singer/songwriter. This album is gorgeous and will probably end on my best of the year list. You simply have to check her out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgAMh7s-q_k Tape Five: Tonight Josephine! German retro electro-swing. Reminds me a great deal of Bitter:Sweet with male/female vocals and lots of trumpet. Pantaloons is my favourite track: http://www.myspace.com/tapefive Tracey Thorn: Love & Its Opposite CocoRosie: Grey Oceans Natalie Merchant: Leave Your Sleep Evelyn Evelyn: Evelyn Evelyn (has anybody listened to this?!) Lucky Soul: A Coming of Age Goldfrapp: Head First The Living Sisters (Inara George, Eleni Mandell, and Becky Stark): Love to Live (a bit cutesy Finally, I have recently stumbled across retro-chanteuse Abby Travis which has resulted in me buying both her albums. She reminds me of Jill Tracy and Imelda May. This is my favourite track - not least because it has Rebekah del Rio on piano: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzroJSEfvn4 All best from Copenhagen, Leonora "If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased" (Katherine Hepburn) www.leonorachristinaskov.com _________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 May 2010 11:29:18 -0400 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: New music worth checking out On May 18, 2010, at 11:09 AM, Leonora Christina Skov wrote: > Evelyn Evelyn: Evelyn Evelyn (has anybody listened to this?!) I preordered it, so I've had it kicking around for a bit now. I'm rather torn on it; much of the music is fabulous, but the twentyish minutes spent on the spoken word segments is pretty painful. Okay to hear once or twice, but I mostly wish it were about 10% of the length! jeff ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V15 #123 ***************************
