(reminds me, i still have a list of things to check out from neile that i haven't gone through yet!) in the meantime, i have bought a few things elsewhere. neal mentioned caracol's `l'arbre aux parfums' which i'm quite enjoying. someone (neile?) mentioned french artist claire diterzi, whose two cds i ordered from amazon.fr along with emily loizeau's new one, _pays sauvage_, and i've been loving all three. the percentage of french music in my collection continues to grow. regina spektor's _far_ and imogen heap's _ellipse_ have both so far failed to grab me, sadly. they're both good, but neither, so far, seems nearly as essential as previous works. hopefully they'll catch me later. i've also really enjoyed two releases from local vancouver artists: darkblueworld, aka elizabeth fischer and friends, put out a second album mid last year, _the perilous beauty of madness_, which i quite enjoy. samples here: http://www.dripaudio.com/releases.php?release=20 and in january i was introduced to local duo mojave (not to be confused with mojave 3) whose album _crow's funeral_ i am really enjoying, especially the title track. the full album can be streamed here: http://mojave.fm/ - definitely worth checking out! - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < http://www.last.fm/user/kalaleq/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Feb 2010 06:40:53 -0500 From: breinheimer@webtv.net (bill) Subject: digests I don't seem to have received a digest past 2 days. is something wrong? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Feb 2010 08:44:48 -0800 (PST) From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Fw: 'I think I can see the ocean' is released today! and catch us on tour! - ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Elaine Lachica To: Elaine Lachica Sent: Tue, February 23, 2010 10:37:49 AM Subject: 'I think I can see the ocean' is released today! and catch us on tour! Laden with a tasteful blend of tangible pop sentiments and exorbitantly professional orchestral arrangements, the album seems to evoke the full spectrum of emotions, lending well to its seasonal consciousness. Lachica boasts a well-trained set of soprano pipes; however, she tiptoes in and out of classical form, convincing her listeners that she indeed has her own unique sound. But I donbt get the sense that musical uniqueness in and of itself is her ultimate goal; rather, I would simply say that I believe her. I believe that she means and feels what she sings. In the song bCollective Myth,b the haunting minor melody entrances the listener in an ethereal dreamscape reminiscent of an operatic aria. On the other side of the coin, the first two tracks, entitled bBehind My Mindb and bTumbleweedb respectively, lift the listenerbs spirits with a joyous and almost flippant tone. This is definitely not a one-dimensional album. Now, thatbs not to say this will appeal to everyone. In fact, I would argue that perhaps few will enjoy bI Think I Can See The Oceanb upon first listen. One of Lachicabs shortcomings is that her lyrics are a bit mumbled and unintelligible at places, which can be frustrating. But overall I would recommend the album. For students, bI Think I Can See The Oceanb is nothing if not fantastic study music." by Michael Whitworth (http://www.redandblack.com/2010/01/20/lachica%E2%80%99s-debut-album-%E2%80%9 8a-fantastic-study-of-music%E2%80%99/ ) And another review on Collected Sounds here: http://www.blog.collectedsounds.com/?p=6832 Thanks for caring and for all of your support.
