I found this Italian singer Gaia Riva on Myspace a while back, seems like the kind of stuff some of you might like. Anyone else heard of her? Here's a couple of videos, would appreciate feedback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPaTYqPen30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1C_eDFGjLs ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jan 2010 01:45:37 -0500 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: st. vincent tonight - lincoln center, 1 ticket available Wow. That had to be the most spectacular listening room in the world. Check out these pictures: http://www.panjazz.com/content%20images/Allen-Room,-center-mezzanin.jpg http://www.panjazz.com/content%20images/P1010085.jpg http://www.artecconsultants.com/03_projects/performing_arts_venues/jazz_at_lincoln_center/images/allen_room_photo01.html Behind the musicians is a huge arching wall of glass giving a panoramic view of Columbus Circle and Central Park, and all the way down 59th Street. You could see the full moon in the sky. Overhead, a terrific system of colored theater lights high up in the louvered ceiling. The show was my first real exposure to the music of St. Vincent; I really enjoyed it. There was an amazing number of backing musicians in many different configurations, including at times a whole squadron of saxophonists (well, five). She kept bringing on musicians and introducing them as though everyone already knew who they were--maybe everyone else did, but I didn't. Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) was on stage early in the set for "Laughing with a Mouth of Blood" and later for the "Roslyn" duet (which also featured Bryce Dessner of The National). I know all this because someone has already posted the setlist here: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/st-vincent/2010/the-allen-room-jazz-at-lincoln-center-new-york-ny-bd7653e.html And then she introduced another super-special guest who I was sure I wouldn't know, and who turned out to be... David Byrne! They played a song "we've been working on together," which according to the setlist is called "Breathing." My recollection of it now was that it was pretty up-tempo and, as you'd expect, somewhat Talking-Headsy. Thanks JoAnn, and welcome back to New York City!
