NYC is a brutal place to pay for overnight lodging. for the sake of those ectophiles that don't have friends in NYC to crib with, i might ask some of the local folks in the know to suggest the most affordable places in the area where someone can stay overnight. besides basic decency of the place (some of these hostels fail that criteria), i would hope that the NYC subway is accessible from such. the closest subway stop to the venue is the Bedford Ave stop on the L train. the Metropolitan-Lorimer stop on the G train ain't so far either. so now here is *my* spiel sorta in my own best interests: 1. while we are hoping to break even or better, i will not profit personally financially from this if the gig does well at the door, but if the gig does poorly, i can lose a wheelbarrow full of money. (that risk is okay, this is what i do to support art instead of buying crap to put on the wall or on the end-table.) what this means is, after meeting expenses (of which a certain minimum to each act is considered part of) i will divide everything that exceeds the expenses equally among the artists and *they* will benefit from a great turnout and expenses kept to a minimum. this is why, everyone else helping with this gig (not the KF staff) are volunteers. none of us will make a dime on this, we just want to see a great show and hear some amazing music and support the kind folk who share their divine talent with us. 2. this venue is *much* larger (about 250) and nicer than the Lily Pad in Cambridge where the Ectofest 2007 was held. nice stage, nice lights, nice sound system, and alcohol and food to boot. this venue costs a lot more money to rent and we also have a bar/food minimum to meet. 3. in keeping with the goals of a great turnout and keeping expenses to a minimum, we can really help everyone mutually if people who are confident that they plan to come buy tickets in advance. if we get close to selling out by Feb 1, i won't need to buy an ad in the Village Voice (multiple hundreds of $) and the money saved goes to the artists. also, if everyone who is not a tea-totaller buys a drink or two, we will make sure we meet the bar/food minimum and doing so will result in more that goes to the artists (if we meet the other expenses). 4. now, in terms of advance ticket sales, besides helping me plan, it also guarantees that you don't drive/fly/train to NYC only to find out there's no room for you at the gig. it will help us all to make and commit to decisions to come well in advance. but i also understand the distaste for Ticketmaster or Ticketfly. they charge $3 per ticket and they do nothing tangible other than electronically reserve your ticket and take money outa your credit card. 5. so what i am doing is opening a checking account at my local bank in the name of "Eve-Fest". until about the end of January, i will accept checks or money order (even personal checks) made out to Eve- Fest for $20.00 per ticket plus $2.19 per order for insurance/postage (for 2+ tickets, much less expensive than Ticketmaster and i'm not making a dime on it). money must be US funds drawn on a US bank. if the check is personal (or questionable-looking), i will deposit it in short order and, if it doesn't bounce in a week, mail the tickets insured a week after deposit (make sure the mailing address is clear). if it's a money order or decent looking bank check, i'll mail it right away. if you want to make use of this, mail said check and necessary return address to: Eve-Fest c/o Robert Bristow-Johnson 40 North Cove Road Burlington VT 05408-1215 6. things are still getting set up, so i do not guarantee any tix are mailed until around Christmas/NewYears. and we'll do this through January. after that, it's Ticketfly or, if you're in NYC, a trip to the box-office in Williamsburg, or take your chances with DoS admission. for those unfamiliar with me, i promoted and underwrote the Ectofest 2007 and i'm not ripping anybody off. if you don't believe it, feel free to get your tix from Ticketfly in advance (as soon as KF lists the show on their calander which should be very soon) or take your chances with the door on Day of Show. please keep in mind that the more sold out we make happen to the show and to do that with a minimum of expenses benefit the *artists*. so please plan to come, talk this up with other like-minded ectophiles. you left-coast ectophiles, please let the other folks know how good these artists (like Two Loons and Odessa) are (Lee is more local). please network with others about information regarding affordable places to stay. and please plan to buy a CD or two when you come. and have a great time. if we ectophiles can't persuade the powers that be to book ecto-artists, we just have to do it ourselves. and i would not mind at all if someone else picks up this mantle and promotes the next gig. maybe even we can talk You-Know-Who into performing it and call it a legit "Ectofest". with anticipation, - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #331 ***************************
