I rediscovered this intimate New York venue while singing harmonies with my friend A.J. Roach a few weeks ago, and was reminded how much I love it. The space is a small, cement room in the basement of a church, lit up with Christmas lights and able to fit about thirty people. In a city where so much music is amplified, this is a dedicated acoustic venue, which we're thrilled about. B As small spaces go, sometimes acoustic venues are the places where we can hear one another best. B And it will surprise no-one that being able to hear one another is the very most important thing for us, as musicians. For this show, I will be joined by the marvelous Yair Evnine on cello and vocals, and Greta, considering the venue's piano-lessness, will lend her lovely voice. In other news, preparations for my new album continue to go well. B I am thrilled to announce that Todd Sickafoose and I will be working on this record together, reviving the collaboration that gave rise to Secret Knots and Boots. B We have both evolved so much musically in the years since then, so I am looking forward to seeing what kinds of new musical landscapes we will discover as we begin tracking. January will find me playing in another tiny, all acoustic venue, this one a salon style gathering on the Upper West Side, location to be disclosed shortly. Since I will not be in touch again until the new year, let me express my most sincere wishes for a blessed holiday season. B May these days be warm, rich, full of the things and people you most love. And thank you as always, for listening. Noe Venable P.S. B In place of lyrics today, I leave you today with a meditation on bewilderment, written during my time in Divinity School this past year. TERRIBLY terribly long, I warn you, and thus suitable only for the very brave, (or for the very bored!) But I enjoyed writing it, and thus think it fit to share.
