I didn't realize that both have new records. Especially surprised by Erin, who I usually keep up with. In the past month or so, I missed: new Meshell Ndegeocello, new Erin McKeown and new Nellie McKay, and all three have been favorite artists of mine. I feel like I'm behind on life. Susan Werner and Julia Sweeney both came on stage unexpectedly, which was awesome. It was fun seeing Jill not having been an especially big fan of her work previously. I had no idea she was so fierce and funny and badass. I feel like w/ her straight-forward hooks and Cyndi Lauper-ish voice, she's a shoulda-been pop star. The acoustic guitar schtick seems not quite right, like she sounded fantastic, but I think she really belongs in a lusher setting w/ piano, bass, drums, guitar, glitter and lights. Also, Erin and Jill have a hilarious cover of "Single Ladies" they've been doing as an encore. ~tim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Nov 2009 14:23:17 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: Erin McKeown and Jill Sobule Hi, > I saw Erin McKeown and Jill Sobule play together last night. > > I didn't realize that both have new records. Especially surprised by Erin, who I usually keep up with. I haven't heard Jill's new record yet, but Erin's is really good. Not sure how it will ultimately stack up next to "We Will Become Like Birds", which is IMNSHO one of the best albums ever, but it's very enjoyable so far. > Susan Werner and Julia Sweeney both came on stage unexpectedly, which was awesome. Well, Jill did have her pop-star moment 15 years ago with "I Kissed A Girl", but I hear you. She really is an under-appreciated genius in many ways. > Also, Erin and Jill have a hilarious cover of "Single Ladies" they've been doing as an encore. I was lucky enough to witness the debut of this version, last New Year's Eve at the Tin Angel in Philly. Here it is, Erin McKeown & Garrison Starr (video shot by our own JeffW :): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KT1V1EgERs Meredith :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2009 15:58:47 -0500 From: Karen Hester Subject: Erin McKeown's Hundreds of Lions - $1.99 on Amazon today only?
