Black tape for a blue girl "10 Neurotics" Risque, gorgeous stuff with Nicki Jaine and Brian from Dresden Dolls guesting. Distincly NSFW frontcover and images in the booklet. And the songs are great mostly. Cerys Matthews "Don't look down" Gorgeous and somewhat varied album. Love her voice still. Lisa Hammer "Dakini" Heavenly vocals and songs to match. Rosie and the Goldbug Really fun album, sad to hear they've split. Bishi "Nights at the circus" Utterly entrancing and unique stuff. Like a female Patrick Wolf. Not to be an apologist, but just by way of possible explanation: the stage monitor situation there is dismal. There is only the one monitor speaker up on the ceiling pointing at the back wall, and the end result is still that the musicians on stage can never hear a damned thing. And no matter how good a musician/singer you are, you're going to have issues harmonizing if you can't hear both yourself and the people you're trying to harmonize with. Plus I'm sure the piano was probably woefully out of tune as usual, and that never helps either. I love the Rockwood for many reasons, but that love is despite the piano and the sound system. (Really, if you have a lovely little baby grand in your venue, is it *that* hard to have it tuned once in a while?? Apparently it is.)
