Her sense of adventure, theatrics, and ... well ... Kate Bush'ness (I use the term with all due respect) has completely lured me in--especially after hearing/watching the video for Mowgli's Road. She should be your musical crush, too! 'When I Was a Boy' by Jane Siberry is a good one. Maybe PJ Harvey's 'Is This Desire'? Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, 'Hounds'/'Sensual'-era Kate Bush... Will ponder it some more... Hmmm, I'll have to recommend some norwegian stuff then: Anything by Kristin AsbjC8rnsen would fit that description: Her solo work, her band KrC8yt and side project Dadafon Kari RueslC%tten's later albums. - -- Yngve - -- Sendt med Operas revolusjonerende e-postprogram: http://www.opera.com/mail/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 2009 20:46:42 -0400 From: Sarah Morayati Subject: Re: Recommendation Request Well, since Teardrop is by Massive Attack and not Portishead, Massive Attack. I'll break up my other recommendations now (I can't really triangulate Imogen Heap into this, so I won't, except to recommend Frou Frou): If you like Massive Attack: - - Fever Ray - - Mandalay - - Autamata - - Lakuna If you like Enigma: - - Schiller - - Ruth-Ann Boyle - - Gregorian - - The McCarricks - - EARLY Sarah Brightman (i.e. Fly, Eden and La Luna) - - Fever Ray (yes, I'm recommending it twice; she is that good and this person should be aware of her) - -Sarah On Mon, 26 Oct 2009 15:39:11 -0700, Neile Graham wrote: > Hey, all-- > > This request came in to The Ectophiles' Guide. She's got a strong voice (and can use it beautifully). The backgrounds are really creative and intriguing, which is kind of amazing, because apparently she does it all on Garageband. I went tonight to see if I'd get to hear some of the songs they had to cut from their set list last week owing to time constraints. There were two they didn't play last week: "Pluton/Pluto" and their cover of Genesis' "That's All." The first featured Olivier on musical saw. (I also forgot to mention in last week's list of instruments the ukelele, which they say they rescued from the garbage.) I came away from the show with a copy of the new album, *Arrow,* and an official Clare and the Reasons kazoo. I'm happy I went. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #294 ***************************
