A number of people here know me well and are my friends. Others of you, my fellow Ectophiles, may not know me at all. HERE IS WHY I AM POSTING: I have some really great video footage of the complete performance of Terami Hirsch and Kevin Benson from a house concert they did in San Francisco in December 2002 with Vienna Teng, Phil Hudson and me. The performance is really good and Terami is very charming. I have wanted to make this available to a wider audience for a long time now. BTW, here is the set list from Terami's portion of that show (I think that I have the order correct): 1) Falling 2) The River 3) Stained 4) Madeline 5) Fire 6) The Breathing 7) Raising the Dead My wife Billi shot the footage of the complete house concert on our older Super 8 video camera. That camera was permanently damaged that night when someone accidently spilled a Coke into Billi's purse where she had the camera resting. All of the footage of Terami turned out pretty good though. One issue is that the lighting is dark. I transferred the Super 8 footage to a DVD via my Phillips DVD recorder. I have transferred video this way from other performances I have been involved in that Billi has shot. I have some freeware software that has allowed me to transfer the video from the DVD into a file that I could upload to my YouTube page. HERE IS THE HELP THAT I NEED: Would someone here be willing to work with me behind the scenes to create some good quality videos that I can then upload to YouTube? I don't have adequate software to create a quality video to upload to YouTube at this point. I used the freeware software that I have to clean up the video and brighten it up along with putting some front end title information. It looked fairly good at a lower screen size/resolution. Terami liked what I sent to her for her approval. I did a test upload to YouTube. The quality was not good and not acceptable to me. The video looked very grainy and is not a good way to represent Terami and her performance. At a bare minimum, I am looking for recommendations to some good freeware software for video editing. I really don't want to buy anything because I would rarely use it. Ideally, I would prefer that someone with good professional quality video editing software and skills will volunteer to work with and help me on this project. If you are interested, I will give you my contact information off line so that we can talk. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I have quoted some recent e-mail correspondence between Terami and me (please scroll down to see it). As far as I can see, there is nothing in there that would breach netiquette or violate her privacy in any way and I am comfortable sharing my piece of the story with all of you in order to provide some additional background. Thank you in advance for your responses and for any help that you can provide. All the best! I really loved that night. I am actually kind of nostalgic about that night for a number of reasons. It was kind of an "end of an era" for Billi and me. I thought that you and Kevin were wonderful together. Seeing the videos of the performance makes me smile because you are very charming. That little all-in-one synth/drum machine device and the way that Kevin used it is fantastic! You and Kevin really looked like you enjoyed doing that show. My favorite CD of yours is "Entropy 29". But this video reminded me again of all of the great songs on "To the Bone". It was really wonderful to have you and Vienna there on the same bill too. We were already very familiar with and friendly with Vienna. All of us (Phil, Cheryl, Billi and I) had seen Vienna perform about a half dozen times at that point. Phil had done a glowing review of Vienna's self produced CD on Ecto. That review helped her get noticed and eventually signed by Virt Records. Not long after the house concert Vienna appeared on David Letterman because of Virt's push of her CD to NPR and him hearing her on there. So you could say that Phil had a hand in Vienna's eventual success. When I say this to Phil he is very humble and says that she would have done well no matter what. I agree, but I think he did help. :-) It was a lot of fun to perform with Phil on that night too. At that time I was in between jobs and at a bit of a crossroads in my main career. Phil was out of "regular" work too. So we had done a lot a shows together during that period of time. That was really the last time I was very active playing gigs. After that I plunged back into my career with a new job, my father became terminally ill and passed away, and then Billi suffered from the stroke. So our life changed big time. OK, so I uploaded one of the videos I did to YouTube and it looked bad. It was much too grainy. So I will have to experiment a bit more. I want to make sure it looks decent before I open it up to the world. Now that I have your blessing I will work on it and let you know when I have something I am happy to present. I will let you know as soon as something is up on YouTube. All the best to you (and Kevin too)! It's such a crazy blast from the past to see that show. I loved it. :-) Everything looks good, credits and titles included. I look forward to seeing all the videos from that night up on YouTube!
