[robert bristow-johnso] Re: Review of a concert I did not attend [meredith ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 2 Oct 2009 12:11:33 -0400 From: Karen Hester Subject: Review of a concert I did not attend On Wednesday night all the stupid sucky NY region ectophiles (i.e. those not me) went to hear stupid sucky horrible Noe Venable who had scheduled her last stupid sucky horrible dreadful show in a while (she's studio-bound) for a night on which I already had tickets to the Met's Die Zauberflote. By all accounts the Noe show was hideous(ly beautiful). As Noe sang stupidly and suckily about the glory of the fathering sun, I was gaping at the gigantic flaming guardians of the fire ordeal. While Noe's audience were suffering through puffs of cold air from ice dragons, I was in thrall of the wicked blue-haired queen of the shimmering stars. As Noe bored her audience with her graceful swaying, I was delighting in polar bear puppets dancing to the magic flute (they might have actually been white lions, but, whatever). As Noe's audience yawned at yet another hawk sparrow raven song, I was enjoying the colorful flocks fluttering around Papageno. Whilst Noe sang of stupid sucky primeval wilderness and transcendentalists and death and life and love, I was initiated into the glories of Freemasonry (a shout-out to my new buddies Osiris and Isis). As Noe shared her poetry of hidden gods with her disinterested audience, I was nodding my head to "pa-pa-pa pa-pa-pa / Dann wieder einen Papageno / Dann wieder eine Papagena" (sage words indeed). As Noe pranced suckily (and stupidly) about the boring Living Room stage, I was entranced by Julie Taymor's stage design with glowing Freemason symbols, lightning, a sun temple, a column of flame, a glowing rose garden for love and blue flower garden for suicide and white bearded child spirits riding birds. As Noe's audience wriggled their sore (horrible dreadful) arses in the Living Room's uncomfortable seats with perfect views, I, um, sat about three rows from the gold ceiling and squinted at the distant stage and wriggled my trapped legs, but I was sitting on red velvet, so you all suck. As Noe sang prettily to an audience rolling on the floor clutching their ears, I was grinning at perfectly hit high Fs. So no, I'm not jealous. hugs, Karen p.s. i HaTe YoU aLL, YoU sUcK. p.p.s. did anybody make a concert recording? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Oct 2009 14:21:24 -0400 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: Review of a concert I did not attend Karen, that might be my favorite concert review of all time. By all accounts the Noe show was hideous(ly > beautiful). Yeah, really you didn't miss anything. And Vienna Teng wasn't sitting at the table next to us, either. ;) Speaking of Ms. Teng, saw her up at the Iron Horse last night, with The Paper Raincoat opening. We all know about Vienna and how awesome she is, but I just need to make sure y'all are utterly clear on this point: The Paper Raincoat is PURE GENIUS. Their first full-length album is just about out, and it's required ecto listening. Srsly. I bow down to Alex Wong, truly the boy can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Anything he touches turns to musical gold. Meredith :) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #271 ***************************
