They're wonderful live, so do go to the shows, if you're nearby and have the chance :) Warmly, Heidi. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 2009 07:17:57 -0700 From: "Onna" Subject: Re: The Audreys in LA next week - don't miss this if you're there :) Hey all I am leaving for L.A. tomorrow and will be there a week. I am mostly going to be in classes at a convention at the Hilton (by LAX)... PLEASE lemme know if anyone from the list is near that want to meet for a bit or any other shows. Can you believe I have not been to L.A. in almost 30 years..I don't care for big cities..got spoiled by rural living and clean air. But love that you can catch acts. Also... Do any of you know of places that do an open mic that are near where I will be ? That would be a blast to do a quick show, I will have my guitar with me as always to practice. So lemme know onlist or private if you like. I'd love to me other Ectophiles! grin and would be fun to jam with any of you I do a few of Happy's tunes. Is the smog still terrible? Do I need to bring an inhaler? geez maybe a small oxygen tank..LOL The smog and car exaust used to make me terribly sick..so stopped going. This is a gift that I get to go..a scholarship! I am invited to be at an international lace makers convention..I do love making lace and beadwork and knitting so I can be a student this time instead of always being the teacher..ta ra! I will be there from july27-Aug.1 or 2 not sure if we are staying sunday, up to my driver. So lemme know..:) I am so excited! Onna >>>> Hey all, Been a while since I've posted to Ecto, though I still read (usually in = blocks of 1000+ messages, sure, but I do read!) One of my favorite bands (and also seriously lovely people!), The = Audreys are making a quick visit to Los Angeles next week for a couple = of shows before heading back to Australia to tour. If you haven't heard = their music before, you're in for a treat. Their first album only came = out in Canada (on True North records, I think, in 2006-ish) and their = second, most recent one still hasn't been released outside Australia. = Both albums won "Best Blues & Roots Album" in their respective years at = the ARIA Awards here, though that category title doesn't do any real = justice to what they actually play (seems that anything that isn't "pop" = or "rock" in Australia is automatically "roots"=20 Anyway, they're playing next Monday and Thursday in LA - the venues are: = (web site copy-and-paste here!) I have never heard it before, but it has a very ectoish feel. Unfortunately, I couldn't hear it clearly enough to catch lyrics which is how I usually ID. I'm hoping the description is enough for one of you. It's a female vocal acapella (as far as I could tell) with the possible exception of vocoder backing vocals a la the Cher effect. The harmonies are very reminiscent of the arrangement on Jane Siberry's "The Gospel According to Darkness" from WIWAB. In fact, I thought it might be Jane or ISSA. The vocal quality is similar; however, it's a bit softer and perhaps more mainstream, like Sarah McLachlan. I believe it was playing on an XM station, and the other songs were not terribly alternative, which is why I thought it might be a more mainstream artist. It may have been a popular song, but I never listen to the radio, so my knowledge of current popular music and artists is pretty limited. Any takers? Thanks...Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 2009 20:50:46 -0400 From: Urs Stafford Subject: Re: Song ID On Fri, Jul 24, 2009 at 8:20 PM, Lisa wrote: > I heard a song today that I cannot ID. It sounds like you're describing her song "Hide and Seek". The video for it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cpSv2mNhhc Cheers, Urs. - -- This is sacred time. This is sacred space.
