I was listening to Lisa Hannigan's new one this morning in the car and I couldnt help thinking that I was listening to a Irish Rebecca Timmons singing. I also think Bloem de Ligny is a vocal dead ringer for Bjork and Mia Sheard and St Vincent are really the same singer... Are there any other artists out there who you think are vocal dead ringers for someone else? - -jason np Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 11:04:15 -0400 From: "Mike Connell" Subject: re: artists that sound like a dead ringer for someone else? > Are there any other artists out there who you think > are vocal dead ringers for someone else? Coincidently with this timely topic, just last night I was walking around on "Nantucket Island" on Second Life and unexpectedly wandered into a live show by Claire Di-something. I got there at the tail end of the show - 8:50-ish ET - and she was talking, and I thought she sounded a lot like Melissa Etheridge when she spoke. I heard a few songs, all covers if I recall correctly, and even then she resembled Melissa a tiny bit, but not near the raspiness M.E. sometimes has. To cap it off ironically, she closed with a rousing cover of "Pretty Woman", so I really began to wonder if there was more to this audible resemblance than met the ear. ;-) Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 15:36:56 +0000 (UTC) From: rlovejoy@comcast.net Subject: Re: artists that sound like a dead ringer for someone else? I thought Brendan Perry, on DCD's "How Fortunate The Man", sounds like an exact cross between Jim Morrison and Frank Sinatra. Emily Jane White's voice sounds a lot like Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and There's a singer named Jo Gabriel who sounds almost exactly like Kate Bush to me. I give those two the benefit of the doubt and assume it's not deliberate. I can think of a few non-ecto bands where the copying is fairly obviously intentional though. Imogen Heap - Kate Hanvnevik - Bjork some people say sound alike and they do but only because they all have worked with Guy Sigsworth as a producer and sometimes co-writer. Vocally and personally, I know they are all different and if you are not use to a nordic accent, you may think Kate & Bjork are alike because they share that, too - tho, ones norwegian and the other icelandic..and all three have a brit accent going as well so there you go and, all americans from the south sound alike and motown acts, too :-) On Jul 20, 2009, at 9:37 AM, Michael Quinn wrote: > Emily Jane White's voice sounds a lot like Chan Marshall (Cat Power) > and There's a singer named Jo Gabriel who sounds almost exactly like > Kate Bush to me. > > I give those two the benefit of the doubt and assume it's not > deliberate. "Of course!" Kim Komando's "Video of the day" on this years "Ecto-the-list" birthday (and mine): http://videos.komando.com/2009/06/18/african-thunderstorm/ It's worth watching for the storm at the beginning. I'm not a big fan of the song itself, and in a way the group hasn't reinterpreted it at all--rather, they're aiming at recreating it as closely as possible, but in a completely different medium; I guess that's what makes it so interesting. Plus, I get a kick out of the guy who is the drum kit. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #200 ***************************
