But my greatest fine has been High Priestess "Oak song" from a few years ago..It's done in a New Agey, witchy and utterly compelling style. The singer has a great voice and it concludes with a weird Blondie cover..see http://www.myspace.com/advancedbliss for more. Anna ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 10:26:15 -0700 From: Sue Trowbridge Subject: Jeff Hanson the singer, NOT ecto's Jeff Hanson, dies Very sad news... I considered "the other Jeff Hanson" to be in the "male ecto" genre. http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/music/47108762.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUnciatkEP7DhUsl His voice was sweet enough to often be mistaken for a woman's, and his songwriting was strong enough to earn him a deal with one of the country's most influential indie-rock record labels. Jeff Hanson's rising career came to a sudden end Friday, when he was found dead at his apartment in St. Paul. Hanson, 31, likely died from a fall or other accident at the concrete-floored apartment, which he had just moved into days earlier, said his sister, Sara Hanson. He was found by his parents. - --Sue ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 11:52:00 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Re: Jeff Hanson the singer, NOT ecto's Jeff Hanson, dies Wow, how sad. And kind of creepy to see. Not that there is any connection to our Jeff other then the name. But it's still weird to see. Anyway, I just talked with ecto's Jeff and he is perfectly fine! neal On Jun 6, 2009, at 11:26 AM, Sue Trowbridge wrote: > Very sad news... I just saw them au Poisson Rouge last night and they're as terrific as ever. They've added a cellist and Alan Camlet continues to play percussion. (Looks like at the New Haven gig they'll have a bass player instead of the cellist.) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Jun 2009 09:26:11 +1000 From: Andrew Fries Subject: Re: Mary Timony's new band, Soft Power morayati@email.unc.edu wrote: > http://www.myspace.com/softpowerband > > Just heard about them today. Is that a name I should recognise? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 16:58:38 -0700 (PDT) From: neile Subject: Re: Mary Timony's new band, Soft Power On Sun, 7 Jun 2009, Andrew Fries wrote: > Very nice but I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I haven't actually heard of > Mary Timony before. Is that a name I should recognise? There has been some talk about her here over the years. She was in the band, Helium and then did several solo albums that caught people's attention here. I especially love _The Golden Dove_, which is a brilliant album and seems to typify the best of that era of indierock for me. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 20:09:08 -0500 From: Doug Subject: Heard in a Tuesday Morning on a Saturday Afternoon Pretty Good Year, by Tori Amos, over their background music system. Nice flashback...it was the one Tori song I attempted to learn on the piano. Ah, the memories. - --Doug ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 20:12:39 -0500 From: Doug Subject: Re: Mary Timony's new band, Soft Power > Very nice but I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I haven't actually heard of > Mary Timony before. Is that a name I should recognise? There's a Sleater-Kinney connection...I think it was an ad-lib, but Corin added her into the lyrics of I Want To Be Your Joey Ramone once. Or something like that. - --Doug ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 21:18:50 -0400 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: Jeff Hanson the singer, NOT ecto's Jeff Hanson, dies sue sez: > Jeff Hanson's rising career came to a sudden end Friday, when he was > found dead at his apartment in St. Paul.
