Today's Subjects: ----------------- RE: Happy Rhodes Music in Green Burial Documentary [Sharon Nichols ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 31 May 2009 02:09:27 -0400 From: Sharon Nichols Subject: RE: Happy Rhodes Music in Green Burial Documentary Hi Robert, I appreciate your input. I see what you mean about that cremation statistic being misleading. It is an editing mistake... what Laurie Alyssa was referring to here is an annual amount in the United States. The statistic I have is that one cremation uses the energy equivalent of a 4,800 mile drive, which would be from New York to California and partially back. I will let the filmmaker know that this is confusing. I'm not entirely happy with the way the doc turned out... a lot of vital information was omitted. But I was pleased that "Feed The Fire" was used... I think it's appropriate here. Currently there are only 12 natural cemeteries in the US, but the number grows every year: Foxfield Preserve (Wilmot, Ohio), Galisteo Basin Preserve (Santa Fe, New Mexico), White Eagle Memorial Preserve (Goldendale, Washington), Steelmantown Cemetery (Tuckahoe, New Jersey), Ramsey Creek (South Carolina), Honey Creek Woodlands (Georgia), Glendale (Florida), Cedar Brook (Maine), Rainbow's End (Maine), Greensprings (New York), Ethician (Texas), and Fernwood (California). You might try calling some of your local rural cemeteries to see which ones, if any, allow natural burials. Many here in New York will allow you to customize your burial to your liking. Of course, laws vary from state to state. Let me know if you need additional information... I'm constantly learning myself! Also consider joining your local chapter of the Funeral Consumers Alliance (http://www.funerals.org). They can definitely hook you up.
