Edwyn Collins "You're better than you know", oddly enough I like Gabrielle's "Rise" complete with Dylan sample and all. Bob Dylan's "I shall be relased" works fine too, if I mention that I like the Bette Midler version then I'm sure I lose some cool points but nevermind. Kate Bush's "The sensual world" might belong on some other mix, but for me it's always been a good song to be cheered up by. I have a signeed poster from a performance at brass city records in waterbury, ct several years ago (late 90's?). unfortunately with webtv I can't do much but I have a friend with a computer and, I think, a scanner. You can hear it on his blog. Kate is in the process of working on her 2nd album, which, as of now, has a release date of - fall 2009. The first single "Halo" has been out for a spell and is available at iTunes, as is the newest single, "Show Me Love". So, she is releasing singles leading up to the release of the album. If anyone has blogs or is at radio and would like to interview her or review or play the single (s) - get in touch. Promo copies are in the works but are not yet available. Highnight" Subject: Re: self-soothing songs First on my list is Happy's "Ode". That song is absolutely gorgeous and very soothing. Another song that really helps me zone out is Beth Orton's "The Stars All Seem to Weep". The score to the film FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC composed by Christopher Young is my all-time favorite instrumental music. That is my ultimate pacifier! Very rare - I'd be happy to burn copies for anyone who is interested. I think it's one of the most hauntingly beautiful scores ever written for film and it has received ZERO mainstream appreciation. Have you ever heard any of Jens Lekman's music? He is a genius at using gorgeous, old orchestral music and blending it into his own creations - scratcy records and all. He has several songs that I find VERY soothing and hypnotic. "Rocky Dennis' Farewell Song to the Blind Girl", "Psychogirl", "F-word" (which even incorporates crickets chirping).......speaking of crickets, Tori Amos' "Sugar" and many of her older songs would be up your alley. Have you heard any of Faun Fables' music? Some of it is very UNsoothing (in a good way), but there's quite a bit of beautiful hypnotic ballads as well. Their music is very medieval.....almost primal. It's very hard to describe their music but it's worth a listen. I have tons of other suggestions but I hate to bore everyone with them all! You can drop me an email if you'd like more info on the above. Take care and good luck in your search. Kevin D. F. Highnight >From: JoAnn Whetsell >Subject: self-soothing songs > >Hi.
