A Shure KSM-27 would be a pretty safe bet for what you're looking for. MXL mics get sorta mixed reviews, but they do deliver good bang for the buck. I haven't used a loop station myself, but some musicians use them on stage every night. As the studio is being rebuilt piece by piece I am thinking of adding some new vocal mics for recording. I was looking at severl, one is Shure KSM27 Studio Microphone and the other MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount. It is difficult living in the boonies of the desert and being unable to just cruise a music store any old time. I find I order online alot more these days. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated. There's a couple others that look like they could handle the job..some are way out of price range. Another thing is a loop station, I have wanted one for over a year, but am wondering, do they breakdown fast with all the stomping? Protools is used as an outboard for recording bits at other studios, etc - which then are used as files in Ableton. Protools is too conservative amd limited for all my needs. I'll be at the release party for Live 8 at the end of the month in LA, and will be getting my upgrade to 8 from ableton live 7 soon...I've been with it since version 4. I saw Theresa Andersson's whole rig - I am pretty sure she uses a Boss - I can't remember except it was orange or red which means Boss or Digitech, she uses 2 with i think 4 pedals each. I have instructions on how to build my own foot pedal station to trigger all kinds of things in Ableton Live 8 - which can include triggers for the looper (software in the computer)... I am thinking of making my own box, but that would happen next winter...still collecting ideas and the best parts to use...not all switches are created equal. I may end building 2 boxes - one for production & remixing, and a separate one for Dj'ing and that will switch on looper & Fx but also keyboards/percussion for adding live overdubs while spinning. Have solder gun, will shoot for the best custom setups. Birdie Neb Rodgers wrote: A Shure KSM-27 would be a pretty safe bet for what you're looking for.
