The full track listing is: Old Soul Concrete You And Frank Sinatra Rosie The Lower Road If You Miss Me At The Back Of The Bus Icarus Wind Have You Heard Juliet Everybody's Numb This Girl Is Taking Bets My Own Private Riot Rags And Bones When I Get Back To Shore Inverigo The recordings are taken from UK shows during 2006 and 2008." Sounds like it could be phenonemal, a really great mix of old and new. It looks like it will lack the coherence of a true live performance, but the selection is top-notch (yeah, yeah, IMHO), especially the rarely-performed My Own Private Riot, which was the electrifying high point of her set list in 2006. good to see You and Frank Sinatra, which I've only seen on YouTube, and I've never heard or heard of Concrete. Oh, and just to throw my support in for Bat for Lashes new album. I was an early convert to her first album but, oddly, played it again recently and it didn't do anything for me. I also felt a little trepidation when someone slipped a link to download the new one a while back (I have just bought the CD, fear not) but I really, really like it. She definitely broadens her musical palate, while retaining that spooky Bjork-meets-PJ Harvey-on-a-moonlit-moor vibe that I noted the first time round. It's not as harrowing as my namechecking suggests: think of the gentler, more haunting sides of both of these artists. I, meanwhile, have left my music player somewhere and won't get it back for at least a week. I got scant sympathy last time I had to do without my music fix, but I'm sitting here in the early hours of work, before anyone has turned up, and while Pandora is no longer broadcasting in the UK, I've now got lastfm playing, and it is pretty cool. I can't say I've made any new discoveries, but it's very nice and Bree Sharp's "David Duchovny", heard for the first time, is pretty damned funny. Adam, you've made me feel very nostalgic. I remember hearing Bree Sharp play that song (and others live) back in the '90s. I was working the Gavin/AAA Radio Summit in Boulder, which got me into all of the showcases. Some of them were open to the public (generally at the Fox Theatre) with limited tickets available to the public; my badge got me in for free. (As a local who didn't return to work as a teacher until the next week, I volunteered yearly at the conference. :) Anyway, Bree wasn't part of the conference. But Andy Schneidkraut, still owner of Albums on the Hill, the only indie CD shop left in Boulder now that the CD Cellar was bought by Value Music (yeah, I keep in touch with friends back there :), would invite artists to play that week at Albums and at Teresa's, the restaurant he owns; both sites are right across the street from the Fox. Bree did a set at Teresa's and Andy made sure I knew about it ahead of time. Sometimes I really miss Boulder. :) The Gavin/AAA Summit still happens there in August. Ellen (who used to sit in the front row every week at E-town tapings as well :) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #105 ***************************
