It was written and recorded in in 9 days at his home studio, and while the strings sometimes have that "I'm not a real stringed instrument!" sound, I have to say I really love the orchestration on this goes really well with his voice...and it's nice to have a change from the more standard rock arrangements he's used on his recent albums. _Messages Sending_ is only available as a download from his website, http://www.caseystratton.com. If you've been a fan in the past, I highly recommend it. jeff n.p. _Messages Sending_, Casey Stratton ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Apr 2009 16:09:58 -0000 From: "Henning Rech" Subject: Vienna Teng CD Release Tour Hello, I want to point you on Viennas CD release tour starting in the US tomorrow. As she is touring with 'Inside Territory' in Europe since one month already, including several shows not far from here, I made an audio record (with permission) of the show in Freiburg/Germany, and also some photos both in Karlsruhe and Freiburg. The first part of the audio record can be found at http:hft.fh-pforzheim.de/ecto/vienna_teng/VT_FR_409_p1.mp3. As the folder is browseable feel free to look there for more material which I may add during the next days when time allows. Some photos are already up. Miranda Lee Richards, Fever Ray, A Camp, Alela Diane, Marissa Nadler... yet, the album that I've come across that has been my biggest addiction is from the spring of 1986. Philip Glass' "Songs From Liquid Days" is the kind of unusual, demanding, complex and beautiful music that could have big appeal to ecto-folk. For this recording, Glass collaborated with songwriters he has great respect for. These include Suzanne Vega, Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson and David Byrne. This team provides the lyrics, which are very poetic and introspective. The vocals are provided by a varied team as well - including Linda Ronstadt and The Roches. I'm not terribly familiar with Glass' body of work (which is rather huge), but his style is quite unique. I think this album is a great representation of his sound - swirly and repetitive. :-) But not in an annoying way.. I find it rather hypnotic. Paul - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "This is the time. It's a desert island disc for me, for sure. I second the Steve Reich/Kronos Quartet recommendations. The Kronos Quartet interprets work by several composers, Glass included. Also recommended is Reich's *Music for 18 Musicians*, Meredith Monk's *Dolmen Music*, Glass's *Piano Works, Einstein on the Beach, The Hours MPS, *and *Koyaanisqatsi*, and Paul Dresher's *Night Songs/Channels Passing. *General artists besides the previously mentioned albums are Laurie Spiegel, Gavin Bryars, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, John Adams, Michael Nyman, Elodie Lauten (new age + minimalism) and Glenn Branca (who is rock-oriented). Hope this helps. - - A. NP: On Mon, Apr 6, 2009 at 5:37 PM, Paul Jensen wrote: > There have been several excellent releases this spring.. The video isn't very good, and the song is exceedingly underwhelming. I guess I won't be returning to the Tori fold for this one. And yes, Tuesday is the U.S. release day for both the new Vienna Teng album (yay!) and the new Richard Shindell one too, so that's more than enough to make it a good week for music.
