I would definintely see them again and anyone in rachael's camp should check them out. Rachael should see them.... My favourite is Rock'n'reel which combines folk and rock and other stuff. It's a bit pricy but always has a nice cd along with the magazine, and it's bimonthly. The latest Mojo had a great interview with Bat for Lashes btw. All this talk of Youth reminds me of the equally eclcetic Jah Wobble who's gone from playing with John Lydon to recording chinese dub on his latest cd. Also Sinead and Dolores from the Cranberries have sung with him, so that's a bit ecto. I really liked the sound of the song when I first heard it and obsessed on it for a while, then I realized the huge mismatch between the sound of the song and the lyrics. They just don't go together. Kid fears just don't sound like that. Ever since I realized that the song is like fingernails on a blackboard for me. It's just *wrong*. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 2009 19:54:06 -0400 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Name that tune Nope. I'm really surprised, too. My friend, the fabulous Oona Garthwaite will be at the Viper Room in West Hollywood tomorrow night. Sunset blvd, hello, here comes some real deal talent. She's gonna kill it. Oona, I first heard when she had 3 demos on her myspace. She is nearing completion of her first CD, and you can hear a few finished versions here www.myspace.com/oonamusic you say first CD, I say, yeah, these are from her first almost completed one... Oona is the neice of Terry Garthwaite, she of "Joy of Cooking" fame, and an amazing guitarist. Oona's father played bass for JoC, and Tony Brown did key vox. Terry & Tony did plenty to inspire many a women in rock bands to follow, being the first female fronted band to get a deal on, i think Columbia. Huge pioneers and brilliant musicians. Classic SF band, early 70's. That said, Oona grew up learning to sing in aunt Terry's livingroom. If anyone else can make it,, I promise you, we'll have a nice chat down the road after the CD is out and everybody else gets to discover her... That said, she lives in Oakland and plays the Bay Area a lot (Cafe Nourd, Broadway Studios, Hotel Utah) so anyone up that a-way has more chances to catch her than anyone else at this point. and I do, highly recommend :-) here's the deets Viper Room Doors open at 7pm - she goes on at 8pm. $10 - total of 6 bands that night + DJ's.
