Sorry about that last one, I've no idea why it went in twice. Ellen Rawson wrote: > > I should have known you were there, Adam. :) So sorry to have missed you, Ellen, it would have been great to have a chat. I was sitting at a table with ecto lurker Garrick (hi Garrick!), as well as my son and his fiancee (she's the fan) who are both teachers. You'd have had a lot to talk about with them, as there was a LOT of teacher talk. I looked up and may have even seen you! >The Storys, the opening band. ....Their first song didn't do much for me, but subsequent numbers were quite >pleasing, and I'd be curious to hear them with their keyboard player who was missing... I wanted to like them more than I did: there were a couple of songs I liked, particularly when the woman took the lead vocal, but I found a lot of what they did rather samey and dull. You're right, I think the keyboard player would have made a lot of difference. She's as eclectic as you could want, a great voice, fascinating songs. She's been involved in the SF/Fantasy world, and most recently has been collaborating with author Catherynne M. Valente, providing a soundtrack to Valente's stories. Valente's new novel, Palimpsest, was just released, and the two are on tour doing a combination of spoken word readings and music inspired by the book. Either one alone is worth seeing. Together, they are delightful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWmyamLrMKo for a preview of both book and music. We went to see them at Between Books, an independent SF-oriented bookstore in Delaware. It was inspiring, and personally I'm already rethinking the way I want to approach certain things in my own work.
