But I still hold out a glimmer of hope. (Some of her insane fans are already buying badges so they can see her performance there. If any of you lurking out there are considering this, please, please PLEASE, take it from me, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Having a badge is no guarantee that you'll even be able to get in. Finally!!!! :-) No expected release dates, but at least something is in the works!! Merchant Returns To The Studio After Eight Years. FEBRUARY 2009 After an eight-year-long hiatus from recording, Merchant is in the studio again to record a full album. *"I've never had such a massive amount of material to draw from before, I've been writing continuously for the past seven years. I've wanted to make another album but knew that it's a full-immersion process and I didn't want to sacrifice the time and attention that my child deserved. Now that she is older the time feels right."* Merchant is collaborating with many musicians on this project and experimenting with new styles of music. *"I have extremely varied interests when it comes to music and have barely touched upon these in my own songwriting or performing, this project is going to be my opportunity to do some exploring."* She's working with Venezuelan producer Andres Levin and British soundtrack recordist Nick Wollage. Musical collaborators will include Wynton Marsalis, Medeski Martin & Wood, Lznasa, The Fairfield Four, The Klezmatics, Hazmat Modine and Cardamon Quartet, Stephen Barber, The Meridian Arts Ensemble, The Ditty Bops, Katell Keineg and more. *"I've met so many talented musicians over the years and have wanted to play music with them and still even more I've admired from a distance and wanted to approach about collaborating. I've been inviting people from all over the musical map to come to Upstate New York and spend a brief time making music with me. The results have been magical, some of the best musical experiences of my life."* - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "This is the time. For those unfamiliar....coffee houses in Japan serve (d) as serious music listening rooms.....you go out to drink coffee and sit and listen to music....and different houses play different kinds of music.... Radio never took off in Japan..... But there are still maybe 10,000 coffee houses in Tokyo, alone...tho recently chains like Starbucks have been displacing some of the more mom & pop places....and there has been a trend towards chill lounge smooth jazz with some of the younger generation...which like to go out and have conversations (!!!!) and have soothing music in the background..... Anyway...I am researching Manga Houses....which serve anime comic books, coffee, internet, and play late 70's/80's brit & synth pop... And...coffee houses specialising in singer/songwriter music from 60's to current.....say with Joni, EBTG, Dream Academy, Norah Jones, kinda eclectic....and great female singers from ANY period.... And, ecto coffee houses.... Sooooo...if one has any fave Japanese Coffee Houses....I'm all ears and am hoping to get there this summer.....
