Received on 10th Feb. - ----- Dear friends As most of you around the world will know, here in Victoria, Australia , the weekend of intense heat created horrific bushfires that caused the loss of many lives and destroyed countless homes. We are all devastated here, especially as it's so close to home and we all know people who have been affected. I was really touched to receive many messages of concern and love from people in the USA and UK. It means so much to me that you are holding us here in your hearts. So this note is to let you all know that I am safe and outside of the fire zone, and thankfully all my loved ones are safe also. It is heartening to see that Australians are generously donating to the Red Cross appeal, to raise money for those who have lost everything. Here is a link to their site if you wish to make an online donation. Every little bit helps. http://www.redcross.org.au/default.asp Rachel and I will be donating all the money from our gig this weekend in Warburton to the appeal, and are planning a benefit gig in Melbourne some time over the next few weeks. So here are the details for the Warburton gig (Warburton is about an hour and a half east of Melbourne). Saturday February 14th (Valentines Day!) The Wild Thyme Cafi Main St, Warburton 8pm Ph (03) 5966 5050 for dinner bookings On a lighter note, the CD Launch on Saturday was a wonderful success. Thanks to all who attended. Also, I'm planning a quick visit to Cairns next week and am considering organising a house concert. If you are in the area, and are interested, please send me an email. Sweet Blessings Wendy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 23:45:53 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Lex L and Hi, One of the good things about schlepping to music industry events is that sometimes a cool musical discovery happens. Lex Land is a 22-year-old Goth grrl from Orange County, CA who studied opera and decided she'd rather do her own music instead. (Though she hasn't forgotten her roots -- the acoustic rock version of the aria from Bizet's "Carmen" she did today was one of the more unique things I've heard in a long time.) Granted I haven't had a chance to listen to the CD yet, but based on what I saw her play today, I'd say she's highly recommended for fans of the type of everything-old-is-new-again stuff that folks like Jesca Hoop, Laura Marling and even Erin McKeown and the Ditty Bops are doing. Very cool, and very ecto. Check her out. http://www.lexland.net - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #43 **************************
