Vienna is performing a couple of benefit shows with Alex Wong in New York to help support the tiny and very intimate Caffe Vivaldi. It's never fun to lose a good live music venue, and this one is one of the best little, affordable, ecto-friendly spots in New York right now. Especially noteworthy is that the $50 ticket includes dinner, a preview of the new songs from Vienna's upcoming album, a professional live recording and signed artwork. Vienna and Alex are donating all proceeds to the venue to help pay the rent. Unfortunately the first show is already sold out but there is space for the just-announced second show on Sunday, February 15. Details with the link for reservations (tickets): http://viennateng.fanbridge.com/campaigns/show.php?id=501519&sid=66610650 A more detailed description in the original announcement for the first show, now sold out: http://viennateng.fanbridge.com/campaigns/show.php?id=501279&sid=66610650 Dan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2009 02:19:57 -0800 From: Adam Kimmel Subject: PJ and Parish, etc Many thanks for the heads-up about the album, Karen -- I'll definitely look forward to that. I booked my ticket to see her last week, which is what spurred my "Grumpy Old Man" bit about tickets being sent special delivery, like it or not. It will be interesting to see her with Parish again. IMHO, her best work was done with him and the band at the time, and subsequent albums just didn't do it for me to the same extent. The gigs she did around that first time were also among the best I'd ever seen, but the last time I saw her (can't even remember what album she was promoting) she had a very generic back-up band who all looked like they'd had a furious row before they came on and weren't talking to each other. This will also be the first time I've been back to the Shepherd's Bush Empire (or O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, as it's now known) for years, so it will be interesting to see how my body and spirit can handle it. At least, now, I live relatively near it! Thanks, birdie, for the heads-up on the Carina Round. I just don't download much, and hardly ever check MySpace pages or even artists' sites as much as I should. Crikey, I HAVE a MySpace page, somewhere, and I never check THAT. And Terra Naomi has a new one coming out? Thought the first one had promise, so I might check that one out, too. 2009 shaping up to be a decent musical one already, although I kick myself for missing out on Florence and the Machine tickets (announced Tuesday, sold out by Thursday). Produced by Bill Racine at his own Pilsen Sound Studios in Chicago, IL, Meredith's 2nd album features 10 brand new original tracks for your listening pleasure! I've been waiting for the new Miranda Lee Richards forever. Her EP on iTunes is worth checking out. I can't wait to see what Light of X sounds like. Of the list Karen provided (a very good one at that!) I'm most looking forward to: Vienna Teng - Inland territory - Didn't care for her last one, but I'm hopeful for this as I've loved her other albums Bat for lashes - Two suns - Can't wait to see how this turns out. I still play her first album over and over. A Camp - Colonia - This is superb! Yay! Patty Griffin - I didn't know she had one coming out already! I'll be honest and say Children Running Through didn't quite reach the heights of her previous albums but Patty on an off day is still better then most. St Vincent - Definitely looking forward to this! Butterfly Boucher - Scary Fragile - Does this have a release date now? Another one I've been waiting on forever. Sarah Fimm - If the recent Ep is anything to go by this will be a treat The Bird And The Bee - Rayguns Are Not Just The Future - Loved the last album. Definitely up for more from them. Sixpence None The Richer - Wow, really? That's good news. I enjoyed her solo album and the projects with Delerium but another Sixpence album is a good thing. Imogen Heap - The clips we've heard on her Vblog sound amazing. It's great to see an artist at work in those. She's really put her all into this. Royksopp - Junior (guests - Anneli Drecker, Lykke Li) - I'm already excited looking at the guest list! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2009 14:22:04 -0500 From: meredith Subject: For the UK folk Hi, This is for the UK folk out there -- we just found out that Terry Wogan played Rachael Sage's song "Moonlight and Fireflies" on his show on BBC2 this morning. !!!
