This is a huge landmark that used to be the Tower Records flagship, and before that it was a department store called Swann & Edgar, but that's going back some. Hard to believe that such a big place on such an important site will go dark, but hopefully someone will step in. I saw Thea Gilmore do a promo gig there last June, first time I'd even heard of the brand. All this talk about the sound quality of CDs just reminds me what a tin ear I have. Meth, I actually BOUGHT a copy of Mike Flowers' "Wonderwall" cover. There was a concerted effort to get it to be an Xmas No. 1, so I did my bit. I can't actually even remember if it made it. The concert will be on Friday, January 23, at 8pm at 3255 N. Ohio Street, Arlington, Virginia at a friend's house. Tickets are $20. If you've never heard Marina V's music, you're in for a treat. She has a lush, rich voice and sings beautiful and evocative songs about life and love. 99.9 percent Ecto-pure music. You can sample Marina's songs at http://www.marinav.com. I have a webpage with more information about the concert, too, at http://marinav.notlong.com. I'm looking forward to seeing other area Ectophiles on January 23rd. If you have any questions about the concert, let me know. - --Bill Adler ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 2009 15:24:51 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: Washington, DC House Concert for Marina V - Jan. 23 Hi, Chiming in to recommend that the D.C.-area folk attend this show. Marina is a sweetheart, and her music is definitely vintage ecto fare. She manages not to be a Tori clone, and yet her stuff falls squarely into the realm of early Tori, Sarah Slean etc. Meredith :) Bill Adler wrote: > I'm putting on a concert for a wonderful singer-songwriter, and friend, > Marina Verenikina. I heard on npr today that Patrick Mcgoohan passed away on tuesday. He was the star ( and creator ) of the cult tv classic "The Prisoner" and starred in it's "predecessor" "Secret Agent" ( originally "Danger Man"). I was shocked to learn that he was 80 years old. A lot of figures from my youth have died young but if they are now dying because of their advanced years then I must really be getting old. His shows were amongst my favorites and helped make me the confirmed cultural anglophile I am today. Thanks Patrick for all the fond memories. np: Bill Nelson- Chameleon a truly excellent xmas present but not as cool as finding out ( by getting a copy) that Duckman has made it to dvd! Now if they will just do the same with Syphyl and Ollie. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V14 #13 **************************
