Sorry I've been sitting out the Adrienne discussion, but I've had a bit of trouble catching up with things post-Xmas. I saw Adrienne open for Carina Round last year. Was a bit indifferent to her but not as much as I was to the guy who preceded and accompanied her. Birdie kindly contacted me and filled me in on the whole loop thing and the story behind this guy who -- and I can attest to this -- is about as generic as you can get. Birdie then even more kindly sent me a couple of her CDs. Unfortunately they arrived just as I was dealing with a bereavement, so I haven't really listened to them enough to do them justice, but there is more promise there than she showed live, definitely. Just thought I'd say that. Adam K. ____________________________________________________________ FREE 3D EARTH SCREENSAVER - Watch the Earth right on your desktop! Musical taste is, of course, subjective. Here'a a video of Adrienne Pierce and her guitarist, Ari Shine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_zTzlbyhJQ It is definitely lo-fi, but, no doubt, there's just as many people who'd want to hear music presented by Adrienne in this way, as there are people who'd want to hear her do it as an "one-woman-band" with loops, or in any other way. to each their own, Ad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jan 2009 15:57:57 -0800 From: birdie Subject: Re: Adrienne Pierce - another angle The intro and outro music is off the CD and is not low-fi, and is great The performance was for a BBC broadcast that had a built-in audience due to the presenter - NOT the acts. Adrienne draws less than 5 people typically for shows in LA, and she lives here. She needs a complete overhaul, She never gets past being an opening act, and she has been around a long time now. Ari Shine is a package deal from Bongo Beat Records, which hahahaaaa Along with Borders (going under probably this year) she signed to last year. We'll see if Borders, Bongo and Adrienne are still around - this time next year. That said - AMAZON and Indies have the best chance this year! fasten your seatbelts. Nice year to stay home, write, record, work on developing the act, get out to fanbase - directly. By-pass all middle men. That said, Adrienne could pull herself out of this nose dive, but I don't see it happening with Ari attached and Bongo Beat....ah....why would anyone sign with them unless they were in the old tired canadian artist bin and needed some company....the guy that runs it uses old record label marketing tricks that sucked back in the day and are even more ridiculous now - as bullshit hype is shot down easy with everyone on the internet.. like real people who go to real shows and know the real deal. Of course, Ari & Adrienne will probably survive off earnings from music placements on Paris Hilton's reality TV show. Sorry, love, but he represents everything that sucks about the corporate formula music machine. and now he's got it under his belt for trashing AP's career. Off to see Lelia Broussard and Jesca Hoop tonite. How fabulous and refreshing! And, yes I am sure there are people who stay home and watch Paris and Army Wives and Grey's Anatomy re-runs.... But....TV is going away this year, too. It's all going to netflix, iTunes, Amazon.....DVD & Dowloads. People will keep their computers and internet but people will cut off TV service to lower bills or never sign up for it and get a A to D converter box. Welcome to the new specialized non corporate world. Local direct indie is gonna benefit. big chains, labels with lots on the roster, TV, and more are gonna suffer. I do see that Adrienne Pierce has released a well-reviewed cover of Jackie DeShannon's "Put a Little Love in Your Heart". I wouldn't have any problem seeing this artist if I had the opportunity. Actually, it hurts me to see people bash anyone who is trying to work in this very difficult music world. Whether she has "gone" somewhere as far as having lots of fans is of no interest to me, and as to going somewhere after some other performance you liked better -- that's always a matter of opinion. Each of us will respond differently to videos and performances. Personally I like to spend my time sharing about other people or artists whose work I like because there is so much good stuff out there that isn't getting exposure. When I am remembering self control (which I'm sure I forget often) I try to avoid steering people away from people I don't like or whose work I don't like because I don't want the karma, personally, and I know that in the cases where I don't like something, that doesn't mean it doesn't have plenty of value to someone else with an equally valid set of preferences. But I appreciate and respect your and Birdie's honest reactions to music, as you've expressed. - -Mary In a message dated 1/8/09 9:56:08 PM, gordodo@optonline.net writes: > i quite liked adrienne's debut album which i've had for seemingly forever > and > thought she had a lot of potential...i've not had the chance to see her live > yet...but based on this youtube clip at the borderline, i doubt i'd want > to..apparently she hasnt gone anywhere since > thenhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oECXeVXZvoUas a point of comparison i've > seen a bunch of great shows at the borderline where this clip was recorded > (truly inspired gigs by astrid williamson, juliet turner, and karnataka) and > this video kind of makes me glad i havent seen her live----- Original > Message > -----From: Allison Crowe Music Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009 8:03 > pmSubject: > Re: Adrienne Pierce - another angleTo: birdies@ix.netcom.comCc: > ecto@smoe.org, > Marypt51@aol.com> Not at all sure why anyone would persist in what appears > to > be a > vendetta against a particular musician and her accompanist.
