Today's Subjects: ----------------- Peter Watts raves about Amanda Palmer [Steve VanDevender ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 14:46:50 -0800 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Peter Watts raves about Amanda Palmer Science fiction writer Peter Watts has a rave review of an Amanda Palmer (formerly of Dresden Dolls) show he attended recently. Fair warning: Any of you who might be offended by certain words may find some of them on his blog, starting with its title. http://rifters.com/real/2008/12/i-would-kill-for-amanda-palmer.html Apparently Zoe Keating (who was in Rasputina for a while) was the opener. The whole thing sounds pretty ectolicious. He also makes this interesting (and controversial) comment: She [Palmer] probably owned me from the moment I first heard the Dresden Dolls' "Sex Changes" last spring, a song I whole-heartedly recommend to anyone disillusioned by once-great female icons who went all mushy and braindead in the wake of childbearing (I'm looking at you, Kate Bush. You too, Annie Lennox). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 15:05:06 -0800 (PST) From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: Peter Watts raves about Amanda Palmer a wee bit mushy, maybe. But only here and there. Braindead? Absolutely not. Aerial is as smart a recording as anything Kate ever recorded when she was younger. - ----- Original Message ---- From: Steve VanDevender To: ecto@smoe.org Sent: Tuesday, December 9, 2008 4:46:50 PM Subject: Peter Watts raves about Amanda Palmer Science fiction writer Peter Watts has a rave review of an Amanda Palmer (formerly of Dresden Dolls) show he attended recently. The review is of Sunday's show in Aspen. She was worried it would be poorly attended as pre-sales were low and offered everyone in Denver half price tickets. I couldn't stick around, though the thought did cross my mind, as Saturday's show was simply stunning. Similar in general tone to the review, but I'm sure no two shows are exactly the same. We got a guitar auction (which went for $620), two lipsynched songs (Guitar Hero and Rhianna's Umbrella - which were a blast), odd and complimentary performance art courtesy of the Danger Ensemble. a very moving recitation of Columbine victims, and stunning, powerful performances all night long. The whole thing was a thrill and definitely worth the trip. neal np: sound like this - eric hutchinson On Dec 9, 2008, at 3:46 PM, Steve VanDevender wrote: > Science fiction writer Peter Watts has a rave review of an Amanda > Palmer > (formerly of Dresden Dolls) show he attended recently. > > Fair warning: Any of you who might be offended by certain words may > find some of them on his blog, starting with its title. > > http://rifters.com/real/2008/12/i-would-kill-for-amanda-palmer.html > > Apparently Zoe Keating (who was in Rasputina for a while) was the > opener.
