Louise was on the schedule but got switched out with Jack - BUT i had a most lovely chat with the marvellously talented intelligent and heartfelt Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond Post show.... I'll get to work on pix now - I hope some of the puppet show turned out!!! That was a remarkable evening of music - start to finish. Thrilled to find Jack... There was also an additional spiritual "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" which was lovely, and it was great to just bathe in the warmth of her voice and the excellence of her songs. It wasn't as good a show as the last time I saw her back in June, and it got bogged down in an inordinate amount of tuning and suffered from a less-than-perfect sound mix (violinist Fluff all but disappearing at times when she should have been to the fore). But spirits were high and the atmosphere was excellent, in another oddly shaped and small venue that couldn't have held any more than 100 -200 people. I know I'm a fan, but I think that Thea should be selling out venues five times that size. Still, maybe she prefers it this way. I could have seen her at that venue for free*, but it was a school night and the night after a Parents Evening, so I knew I'd be too tired. I'm not a particular fan of that venue; I'd been there once before (in the summer) for the Wailing Jennys. The sound was iffy for them also, so I blame the site. :) > > I know I'm a fan, but I think that Thea should be > selling out venues five times that size. Still, maybe she > prefers it this way. We're seeing Thea tomorrow night in Winchester (closer to home than London :) in a small venue -- Tower Arts. We'll see how it goes there. Ellen *This venue sent out an email offering Obama/Biden free tickets to any gig there through 31 December. I wrote to them in a very joking manner, asking if a dual US/UK citizen who'd voted for Obama/Biden could have free tickets. They replied with 'yes'. Unfortunately, they're on the north side of London and I'm way down on the South Coast, and there aren't any weekend shows there we can make that we want to see. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 02:08:12 -0800 From: birdie Subject: better link - Jack Savoretti This shows Jack like I saw him tonight - his myspace and recorded music is not the same as his live show... The more you let this play...the more you'll see that he is just stunning live... He has a little bit of the early Cat Stevens thing going on... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsJ8k6kzs6o ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 09:47:39 -0500 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: The unHappy Ecto-quiz to see if anyone could identify the artist. She's actually on the Ectophile's Guide, but not much is said about her there, and her new album (from which the lyrics I posted were taken) hasn't been discussed yet. The first song struck me because it seemed like an amalgam of "Life on Mars," "Feed the Fire," "Wrong Century," and "Phobos." The second one also seems Happy-like, maybe somewhere in the "Funny Farm" and "Cohabitants" universe. The synths just added to the impression. But Happy's voice she has not got. The Paper Raincoat at 9pm Kristeen Young at 10pm Can't wait! Still no sign of any Louise Goffin replacement or any bookings. Jack Savoretti seriously needs to do an acoustic CD keeping the raw intensity of his solo live work intact. Or at least production quality along the lines of early Cat Stevens or Jeff Buckley....I was really disappointed by his produced music on myspace....he has an amazing voice and technically is genius without sounding forced, but that can lead to becoming over produced in the studio, and finding the raw soulfulness sucked out of his recorded work, really was a let down. Still that was very interesting to experience someone who was better solo live by miles than recorded! More often than not, it goes the other way around with acts that are created in the studio not holding up live. But, he's the real deal - that's for certain. Lelia Broussard has a new EP out www.myspace.com/leliabroussard She is exec producing her next CD, remaining independent, having basically turned every label down. She has a residency every thursday at Hotel Cafe starting in January and will be doing another Kulak's Woodshed webcast Dec 19th - this time with Keaton Simons. So, her time here in Los Angeles has been very productive and is wearing well on her. cheers Birdie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 14:10:18 -0500 From: "Aly-Neil Fields" Subject: Re: The unHappy I think Paul is talking about Alu.
