And if you can make it, please come say hi! Of course I'll be there... Tomorrow night at Room 5 in Los Angeles, MPress Records presents: "The New Arrivals Tour": Artists For Eating Disorders Awareness A concert benefitting National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) "The New Arrivals Tour" features artists who have appeared on MPress Records' annual compilation series "New Arrivals". On Wednesday, November 12 from 9pm - midnight, artists from Volume 3 will perform, plus a few special guests: Tiff Randol Rachael Sage (featuring David Eggar on cello and Quinn on drums) Michelle Citrin Christopher Dallman ... plus a few songs by special guest Jamie Blake Tiff Randol, late of the band Valeze is an up-and-coming performer whose music sounds like what would happen if Chrissie Hynde had come out of Motown. Michelle Citrin is perhaps best known for the YouTube smash hit "I Gotta Love You Rosh Hashanah" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOTOdBzSpYc), but her folk-rock music is pretty darned entertaining on its own. Christopher Dallman is an LA-based singer/songwriter originally from Milwaukee, who has been favorably compared to Ani DiFranco, John Mayer, Rufus Wainwright, Cat Stevens, and David Gray. And we all know who that Rachael Sage person is don't we? ;) She'll be accompanied by the always stunning David Eggar (of Evanescence) on cello, and the wonderful Quinn (formerly of Eastmountainsouth, as well as the touring bands of folks like Tracy Chapman and Lili Haydn, among many others) on drums. First launched in 2006, the "New Arrivals" series features established and rising independent artists, while raising funds for charity. Volume 3, which hit stores on October 28, includes a wealth of indie talent from around the globe; proceeds from Vol. 3 and the tour benefit National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)*. WHEN: November 12, 9pm-12am WHERE: Room 5 (143 North LaBrea, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA) WEBSITE: www.room5lounge.com TICKETS: $15* MANY LINKS OF USEFULNESS: http://www.newarrivalscd.com http://www.rachaelsage.com http://www.michellecitrin.com http://www.myspace.com/christopherdallman http://www.tiffanyrandol.com ... and if you're lurking out there in Ventura, please do stop by Salzer's Records at 6pm tonight to see Rachael and Quinn play. It'll be fun. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2008 13:25:46 -0800 From: cy Subject: any ectos in nor cal please support this great environmental dinner & concert yes, one of my bands is playing at this benefit but it all means way more than than a band, this Super-woman is putting a dinner, dance and talk about saving the Amazon Rainforest, she's simply an amazing woman. Since I have known Nicola she has traveled down to help the natives left totally screwed by the big oil companies, that came in, did exploratory drilling, ruined the water supplies for the native people and left a big mess behind. She goes down there on her own money, of which she has none, even threatening her own health several times to where we, her friends, were really really worried! But she continues to travel down there, first as a documentary film maker, (Blood of the Amazon) showing firsthand burning ponds that used to be fresh drinking water, ruined land, natives covered with sores from the poisons left in the only water they have. Then she began to go down with rain water barrels with whatever money she could drum up and teach the locals how to set up rain catch systems so they were no longer drinking and washing in poison. This is not some company or semi-org to "save the rainforest"....it's ONE WOMAN, a few plastic rain barrels and a borrowed vid camera. Then she discovered that some scientists were working with mushrooms and she thought hey, it could be planted down there around the burning ponds...That this mushroom could not only pull the pollutants out of the water and the land, but might be able to save this area, naturally! She has hooked up with many folks globally now, even asked National Geo to support her work with a grant (she got turned down if you can believe it, must be an oil company in the woodshed somewhere) and currently has folks down there testing how it works and documenting it scientifically so it can HAPPEN. If anyone can actually make something happen, it's this woman, my dear friend Nicola Peel. She herself is here in Nor Cal before returning the the Amazon in a wekk and is having a benefit this coming Saturday night, Nov. 15th, she's even cooking the meal herself! So you will meet Nicola Peel of Mycorenewal Project, sponsored by Cloud Forest Institute, have a nice veggie dinner with the liberal community of Willits, watch her two short films (fascinating) and she'll give a short talk to explain it all, then live dancing music with the DRUID SISTERS TEA PARTY (we are all playing for free & coming from afar because we believe in her!), with AVALON ROOTS from the UK, and CARRIE TREE also! So an entire evening for a measly $15 (yes, you can donate more!). Our wonderful friends from Willits Center for Artful Living are hosting the evening with three spaces donated, one for dancing, one for dinner, one for the movies. 30 E. San Francisco, Willits. (right off Hi-way 101, behind the Yum Yum Tree Chinese Restaurant) Please join us at 6pm. Fo more info call 707 743-1287 If you cannot come, are far away my east coast friends, but still want to help, please read more about it and donate ANYTHING YOU CAN on line to help keep Nicola going (4 years now) with her fabulous SOLUTION TO THE POLLUTION! please visit http://www.amazonmycorenewal.org thank you for your help and support!
