The first video I was surprised to see on that program as it was from an older album, Wildflower, but this week they premiered her new video, "Vertigo". Both videos definitely capture Rachael's sense of style and spirit. Thank God for DVR though, I usuallyk watch this hour program in about 10 minutes--just skipping through the majority of the videos to see if anything interesting comes on. They do have a pretty good variety though. This time the interesting synchronicities started happening a week before she arrived. One day I met four different huskies--who ever sees huskies in New York City? Maybe there was a husky convention. Anyway, think *Wolf Sky.* Then last weekend I went to Kinko's to get a few posters printed out for Wendy's show Sunday. The poster uses this image: As I was leaving the artwork at the store, one of the machines was printing out a different poster. First, at the top, came the dark, midnight-colored background. Next the red-orange script letters: "Lilibeth" -- a salon's name, I think. And then part of a woman's face, from the forehead down to the cheeks... like Wendy's poster, except with green eyes. It was uncanny. I wanted to take a picture of it, but the fellow behind the counter wouldn't let me. Today Wendy arrived. At dinner I was telling her about my recent time in Las Vegas, and discovered she'd been to Las Vegas on this trip too. "When were you there?" "On September 21st..." My jaw dropped. We started laughing hysterically, thinking we'd both been there at the same time and hadn't known it. As it turns out, we'd just missed each other; I had arrived in the airport two or three hours after she'd departed. And speaking of narrowly missing people: Later on this evening we were at Kim's Video in the village, browsing the CDs. I wanted to get Wendy a copy of *Aerial,* but I couldn't find one, so I went to ask the guy behind the counter. The computer said he had two left, but he wasn't able to find any. As I was checking out with my copy of Goldfrapp's *Seventh Tree,* I said, "Too bad you didn't have that Kate Bush." "She was here last night, you know." "What??" (I thought he meant they had her album last night.) "She was here." "Kate Bush?" I stood waiting for the punchline. "Yeah, she bought, I think it was a jazz CD." Damn. If by some extraordinary twist of fate she winds up at Wendy's gig on Sunday night--okay, okay, I know--then I'll have dispute with that philosopher who said that the only plausible argument for the existence of God is King's College choir at evensong. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 00:57:31 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: OMFG I'm pretty naive with things like that, but he didn't seem to be kidding.
