From the outside (Europe that is), it looks like if you want change, you will undoubtedly get more from Obama than from McCain. Sure, Obama is full of rhetorics and he hasn't said much during the past nine months beyond that one word ('Change'), but at least he's from 'the other camp'. McCain is unlikely to do much different than Bush did. Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but the difference in age between the two alone speaks volumes. Before this list turns into a flame zone (because politics can do that): has anyone heard the new Mylene Farmer album, 'Point de suture'? I'm curious about your thoughts. I'll post my own soon as well. I want change, and though I think we'll >get more change from Obama, I doubt he'll do all that much. I have plenty of faith in Obama's ability to make a difference. He will be appointing two or three Supreme Court justices, which I DON'T want McBush to do. He will immediately reverse all of Shrub's executive orders and signing statements. That alone will make a major difference. I also think his AG will go after the criminals in ShrubCo who robbed this country blind these last eight years. I'd like to think he will turn Bush and Cheney over to the Hague, but that's probably too much to wish for. The government is a really large boat. While he can't change direction on a dime, he can at least quit steering us further into the iceberg field. Michael PS: I'm still interested in seeing, in a separate thread, how all of this is affecting countries that AREN'T the USA. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2008 09:55:22 -0700 (PDT) From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?anna_maria_stj=E4rnell?= Subject: anna ternheim Hi all..'Lots of talk about politics lately..not surpisingly.. i feel like tossing "the god delusion" by dawkins at palin..oh well. here we are gearing to have new albums by anna ternheim and frida hyvvnen. What have been the results? I get weekend event emails that list all these big corporate funded acts but do not list the acts I have signed up to demand - be alerted about. All indies. So, its as if I signed up for indies and all the fat cat acts swoop in with the big weekend promo email from Eventful to try to swipe my attention/time/money. SNEAKY! Part two: Has anyone considered doing a widget/mailing list thing like Eventful but that is for indie artists and gets sponsorship from...organic raw food bars and/or apple or itunes or CD Baby or you get the idea....meaning, it would have to run some cool ads. You know, the Feist 1,2,3,4 for the ipod would work just fine... paging Karen Hester and those doing the ectoNy list ... please do this - just think of all the comp tix you could get! Cheers Birdie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2008 12:43:11 -0700 From: birdie Subject: Re: Eventful Demand - ecto events list I'd just like to add that there are lots of companies that use ectoish artists for their commericals - the big example would be Apple's iPod commerical with Feist's 1,2,3,4 - SO, supporting such a widget/mailing list like Eventful BUT for up & coming indie artists would be a fantastic way for these kinds of companies to participate in artist development and would help them find new talent for their campaigns. So, I think it's a winner, and peeps from the list here would be ideal to run it. As the economy gets harsher - Indies (and those who depend on them) need to keep coming up with more efficient - useful promo tools. My experience is that Eventful pretty much sucks for indies and they have one ugly frickin' widget..... Obviously, an indie based widget/mailing list would be far cooler, all the way around. Starting off with Ecto artists and the Hotel Cafe tour....would be an excellent base to start one... Ok, I'm off my soapbox - it's now open for everyone else :-) Thoughts? birdie wrote: > I have a question for the list and a proposal looking for feedback. > > have any of you signed up for Eventful and created demands for Ecto > artists? > > What have been the results? > > I get weekend event emails that list all these big corporate funded > acts but do not list the acts I have signed up to demand - be alerted > about. Oh, and a study showed that musicians who play different styles of music and hop around to different styles - work say heavy metal to indie acoustic - do not get a bigger audience out of it...in fact, it hurts them. The same goes for marketing - you will get MUCH more interest over all from an Indie widget/list than a big honkin' all over the place corporate dominated Eventful thingie... If you want to climb the mountain - stick with the mountain, one step at a time...running all over to all kinds of them will simply wear you out. It was different what what I expected - the sound was very much like the stuff she put out a few years ago but with newer synths and more intense layering of the strings, but the lyrical content... I could see why it was so controversial when it premiered. She's great - and I feel like she may not do much else after this - so seriously, goooo seeeee heeerrr! There's a pantload more dates and I'd gather most of the dates aren't sold out. Plus there were cool t-shirts... but I already have a Laurie shirt from the 80s, so I didn't buy one. Awesome awesome experience - try to get close seats if you can!
