I haven't left the Myspace page yet to see what her site is like, but there is some really fun stuff here: http://www.myspace.com/erikastucky Was also recently listening to Patti Rothberg and was thinking her debut held up really well and was curious what happened to her. Checked around and found she has a brand new CD out (her 3rd, though the 2nd seems to have mostly disappeared). Another record company casualty who got tied up in contract issues after a strong debut and had their career pretty much crippled. On the new CD, she looks like she could be a member of an 80's metal hair band! neal np: Erika Stucky Myspace songs ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2008 13:06:18 -0400 From: morayati@email.unc.edu Subject: Lisa Hannigan I buy too many Irish debut albums. It's getting out of hand. But this one's really good, I promise. Apparently she used to accompany Damien Rice but I didn't know that. All I know is that "Pistachio" is stuck in my head and refuses to leave, and "Lille" is really, really pretty, and it looks like this album is going to be great. Myspace: http://myspace.com/lisahannigan You can pre-order her album on her site: http://www.lisahannigan.ie - it's from Ireland though. - -Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2008 16:39:48 -0400 From: DanS <2005.carnivore99@verizon.net> Subject: Re: Lisa Hannigan The first time I heard Damien Rice was by accident, since his set followed Charlotte Martin's at NYC's Mercury Lounge back when they were both on their first albums. We were getting ready to leave but then noticed there was quite a buzz about the next performer so we stuck around and were quite taken with Damien, and especially with the chemistry between him and Lisa. Ever since then I've wondered when Lisa Hannigan would release something of her own, and how good it would be compared to her work with Damien. I had not kept up on happenings with her though so thanks for posting this, Sarah. It's exactly what I was hoping to hear from her. I see she's on tour in the U.S. in support of Jason Mraz right now...too bad about the ticket prices. Dan morayati@email.unc.edu wrote: >I buy too many Irish debut albums. Now that I think about it, it was just one quote from ethereal_lad that caught my eye. However, the F word is sprinkled liberally throughout, and the implication is that Sarah Fimm does likewise. I guess what I'm really asking is does Ms. Fimm use the F word for gratuitous shock value, or is it used in context? I don't mind the F word used *occasionally*, but when used gratuitously and frequently it just turns me off. I actually reviewed her new record not too long ago. I reviewed her second one too, and if I remember right, I liked that one better. If you care to read my little opinion ;) Double Standard (newest): http://www.blog.collectedsounds.com/?p=1424 Candelabra Cadabra (haven't moved this one over to the new site yet): http://www.collectedsounds.com/cdreviews/candelabra.html Now I'm gonna go check out Erika Stucky :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2008 20:29:39 -0700 From: birdie Subject: The Paper Raincoat @ Joe's Pub Did anyone make it? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2008 23:47:14 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: The Paper Raincoat @ Joe's Pub Yes, I made it, and Meredith and woj were there. I didn't stay through the whole show, though. Joe's Pub was doing its best to mangle the sound, and I was just plain too tired. The Paper Raincoat went on fairly late; Bess Rogers had come on stage just by herself and by the time she left she had four other musicians and two backing singers on with her (and Alex Wong's guitar, because she'd broken a string). She was pleasant, and ranged all over the place, but I wasn't overwhelmed.
