Wow, lots of new stuff on the MySpace page since I went there a few months ago. I recently bought _Songs for Three Days_ off the iTunes store; I had the misfortune of having it stolen from me a few months after I bought it, and hadn't got around to replacing it. I'm glad she's going to come out with something new! That soundtrack stuff is pretty weird! Thanks for mentioning that! I do, and it is. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 2008 22:59:03 -0400 From: "Karen Hester" Subject: Lily Holbrook, Googie's Lounge It's uncomfortable being the only person in the audience. Will it be creepy if I look too attentive? How long should I clap? Uh-oh, I just made eye contact. How much should I put in the tip jar? Fortunately other people snuck in as the show progressed. Lily supported Brian Wilson two days ago, so a week of contrasts for her. Lily played acoustic guitar; a chap played electric guitar and mandolin; another chap played keyboard and computer, producing atmosphere as well as melody. Songs included 'Make them wonder', 'Running into walls', 'Welcome to the slaughter-house', Led Zepplin's 'Going to California' but none of the fairy tale songs from 'Running from the sky' I think. I particularly enjoyed the moments when her voice, the guitars and piano all soared together into a perfect dark pop chorus. After the show I turned around and the woman sitting behind me was Edie, she of the three song show a few days ago. Blimey. Turns out they're new friends and had sung favorite songs together (Tori Amos, Heather Nova) when drunk. I hope they continue to get drunk together, it sounds musically beneficial. http://www.myspace.com/lilyholbrook http://www.myspace.com/ediep http://www.emusic.com/artist/Edie-MP3-Download/11944753.html k. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #544 ***************************
