Her compositions are complex as anything Rufus Wainwright or mid period Joni Mitchell put out, and her voice is powerful and rich, with a rarely utilized awesome operatic high end. Love love love. Jo Gabriel, Fools and Orphans. Delicate piano pop like Tori or Kate, but her playing has an ambient edgeher piano playing has been compared to Harold Budd. Her voice is high and quavery and a bit of an acquired taste, like the Cranes singer Alison Shaw. There are some lovely pieces her. This is the artists version. A different, more 4AD sounding release will come later in the year. Nice touches of violins and horns. The lyrics are poetic but the way she sings them, they border on incomprehensibility. I do believe this is the project. There are blog entries on Jonatha's site that mention it. It's driving me crazy, but I have a feeling within the past couple weeks I've either seen an ad in an industry publication for this release, or actually held a promo in my hand. I can picture it, and I remember thinking "wow, Jonatha Brooke music with Woody Guthrie lyrics, how's that gonna work" but I have no clue where/when that might have been. (The brain, she grows old and weary.) Or, as has certainly happened before I might have just hallucinated the whole thing. Who knows. :} - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 14:23:23 -0400 From: gaseous clay Subject: Re: danseparc re-issue! yes! one time at band camp, Aly-Neil Fields (the.walking@gmail.com) said: >Yes!
