I took a chance and got Rook and, so far, love it. I had also booked a ticket to see them at the Bush Halls, a nearby and intimate venue which I've been dying to go to since I moved into the area, but they've postponed it. Grrrr... I know it's early days, but so far my faves have been: Veda Hille, Nick Cave, Portishead, Goldfrapp, Camille, Delays (gorgeous summer pop, there), Thea Gilmore and Laura Marling (position boosted by her live show). Coming up in my estimation are Kathleen Edwards (growing on me) and Eliza Gilkyson, with Juliet Turner's -- on only one listen --a definite contender, and Shearwater's Rook looking in danger of being the dark horse. Oddly, as an old prog-head, I'm still apathetic to Van der Graaf Generator's "Trisector", and REM's "return to form" sounds like they're trying too hard, the musical equivalent of a toupee and sports car. I understand Jonatha Brooke is also due another album out later this year, so I'm looking forward to that (warily, but looking forward) and I'm tempted to see if Fleet Foxes live up to the hype. Got to see him live a couple of times, and had a bizarre encounter in the 80s... my wife and I went to a DECUS convention in Anaheim (she was a system admin and went to the regional conventions a lot). The organizers rented Disneyland for the evening - sort of a private party - and we all hit the funway for free rides, etc. We were wandering down the main street in front of the castle and spotted this nervous-looking fellow eating popcorn by the handful. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things He does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, He has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where He will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. ... actually, being both a liberal and a believer, i appreciate the observations from George. theists need to hear such critique, ponder them, and come to an understanding of their faith that isn't the bullshit that Carlin refers to. - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2008 16:10:34 -0400 From: gaseous clay Subject: danseparc re-issue! yes! i know at least one ectophile who will be happy to hear this news!
