Ectophiles, sorry Blind's schedule came thru twice, originally was in a newsletter form & must have been held up in cyberspace by the form police. Web person then put it in text form and now today they both arrive together, both sans the faeriefoto from my calendar, crazy! But please any oregon-cali-washington ectos do drop by Blind's summer gigs. Please, any nature lovers, faerie lovers, photography buffs, check out my calendar (took me 2 years to photograph & publish) I know it's not music but it's very ecto. Thank you, Cyoakha Grace http://www.faeriefotos.com (PS, no, it's NOT photoshop layers! With a stage decorated with peacock feathers, shredded cymbals that looked more sculptural than instrument-like, and a bloke with red sweatbands around his head and wrists, I was disposed to like them. They wore black t-shirts with green and white droplets, but the shirts were all different, they had stuck each droplet on by hand. "Hello, New York! I've wanted to do that for so long, can I do it again? Hello, New York!" shouted the giddy drummer. Three of the four had moustaches which would have been 'ironic' moustaches if they lived here, but the semiotics of Danish facial hair is mysterious to me. Red sweat-band dude ran around the crowd handing out tamborines and we clapped along and smiled. Efterklang introduced more ironic/non-ironic moustaches, coupled with silly rather than adorable English country gentry stage get-up (baggy jodhpurs, a pork-pie hat for the games-keeper violin player, throat scarf and vest for the singer). It was quickly apparent they weren't irritating style-over-substance indie snobs however. The singer was sweetly giddy when each song was followed by enthusiastic applause (he looked like a pretty young John Walters). There were so many people on stage - two drum sets, two keyboards, violin, flute, trombone, Slaraffenland, guy from Grizzly Bear who gave them haircuts, perhaps 12 people. Lots of noises, layers of sounds, often three pitches of vocals including dreamy female voice, a distinct world of sounds woven into pretty pop songs. One song had a silent bit - "... silence" he sings, and we all stand there, silent, then nervous laughter, then silence. After one song: "That was called Xxx, it's named after the highest point in Denmark." "No it isn't" shouts out audience stickler. "The highest point is Yyy." "Oh, right, yes, that's like 150 metres isn't it?" replies the singer. "No, no, it's 152 metres" corrects audience stickler. "Oh, one hundred and fifty twwwoooo" says singer. Apparently the mountainous regions have been remeasured since he went to school. Yey Danish music and people happy about music. Lovely CD case design too.
