Yeah, I'd say they're not really ecto!" _________________________________________________________________ Give to a good cause with every e-mail. WOW! my brightest diamond is *stunning*. What a treat. that was so cool. Shara Worden is *weird*. Wonderfully so. Amazing! Operatically trained. She can do anything she wants with her voice, and does. Her recorded music doesn't seem to capture what she does live at all! And the recorded music (listening to it now so I'm only a few songs in) is plenty good. But live you find out that she can play guitar fiercely or beautifully or both, all the while singing like that. She can rock hard or croon .. i wouldn't go so far as to say 'sweetly'. She always looks like she is up to something, and there's dark fire brewing. She smiled a lot and was clearly having a lot of fun. She danced around, used some really cool alternate ways of mucking about with the sound or adding different sounds, she made great use of pedals. Her drummer was equally talented and creative. Her bassist was nothing special but didn't steal from the sound either, only contributed perfectly. It was just the three of them. No strings, nothing orchestral as seems to have been true at other shows I'm reading about. The sound was at the same time raw and lush. I like this picture of Shara: http://bp3.blogger.com/_4ukiUo0ajpE/Rzu-vnzAolI/AAAAAAAAAO0/Ux7rvKRVPfs/s1600-h/brightest.jpg And this review of a show in new york, which aside from the strings sounds like it was stylistically similar. Her style of dress was similar too, but even a little more punk influenced. It was a beautiful mix of lovely old fashioned french high fashion (or so it seemed to me anyway, i'm not an expert in these things:) Her dress was white, she wore white stockings with black fishnets over, short black boots, punk style black bracelets on both arms, her hair was done up fancy with a flower and feather sticking up at the front, and a black and white shoulder-thingy like she's wearing in these photos - i have no idea what this is/what it's called, but it's pretty:) http://curtainson.blogspot.com/2007/11/my-brightest-diamond-gramercy-theatre.html Anyway... if you get the chance to see My Brightest Diamond.. don't miss it. Same goes for Noe Venable! I don't mean to keep quiet about Noe.. Her set was lovely. And *she* is lovely. And funny. Her voice was unbelievable. So beautiful. It was an amazing evening all around. - --jessica ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 May 2008 20:20:37 -0400 From: "robert bristow-johnson" Subject: Re: noe and my brightest diamond > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "jessica spurling" > To: ecto@smoe.org > Subject: noe and my brightest diamond > Date: Sat, 24 May 2008 12:24:08 -0700 > > > I'll try to say more than just one word.. but... > > WOW! > > my brightest diamond is *stunning*. No, really, I will gush about the Noe performance too. Just.. one thing at a time. We *went* to see Noe. I hadn't heard My Brightest Diamond before. I didn't talk about Noe yet only because I've seen her live before and have already described that and it was much less 'new' for me. But no less unbelievably astounding. Noe is probably my favorite discovery of the last.. N years.. i dunno.. maybe like.. 10, or 15. Really. I just can not believe how incredibly powerful and brilliant she is. Both her voice and her poetry and the two combined.. She is a 'goddess' to me, for sure. - --jessica ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 May 2008 00:03:39 -0400 From: "Aly Fields" Subject: Re: m2oh / eff / cbc Thank you so much for posting this!
